raising your PH isnt going to fix the cause of the low PH. you need to figure out why your ph is low. PH really isnt a parameter its a result of various conditions.
causes can include but are not limited to, excess Co2, excess organic waste, low buffereing capacity, poor oxygen exchange, and more. just raising ph may cause more problems than anything. you should try and figure out the Why.

If you don't cook baking soda it will actually lower your pH. Cooking baking soda releases the carbon dioxide. Washing Soda on the other hand will work fine straight up.
First though what is your Alk? I would not add cooked baking soda unless you know your Alk is low. Otherwise you will just raise your Alk higher and lower your Ca in the process. Most likely your Alk is low, but there may be other reasons. Do you have covers over top of your tank? Do you use a skimmer? Do you have large amounts of detritus on/under your rocks or on your sandbed? How old is your sandbed?

I wish more people thought like this.
pH should not be buffered. The issue causing it to be low should be fixed.

ok here my last test results:
amon-0
trite-0
trate-0
PH-7.8
DKH-143
cal-470
its 65g/20g sump with open top, ocotpus skimmer. sump is new with little refuge with a ball of cheato in there for now. sand bed is a mix of CC and live sand...its about 5", but i just moved my tank so i stirred it all up and sucked out as much ditritus as possible, removed as much CC as i could so its mostly sand

Not that you need to hear I agree... but
I agree....there are too many "easy fixes" to cure the symptoms but very little help on trying to find the cause.

This alone can cause low PH (temporarily). The metabolic acids from the decaying detritus are released into the water column.
IMO just continue large water changes to remove these acids and your PH should climb back up. As stated above, PH is a symptom, in this case the cause should be easy to eliminate.
