The Congressional House Committee on Natural Resources has scheduled a hearing to approve a new bill (HR 669) that would essentially ban ALL pet ownership in the US except for cats and dogs. This is not just an attack on the reptile industry, but an attack against any imported species, including birds, fish, reptiles, and mammals. This hearing is scheduled for April 23rd. It is essential that we, as a community, act NOW to let our voices be heard.
Everyone must take action! I hate for this to be my first post, but this is a very important, and we must take action as aquarists and pet owners alike!
PS I love this forum, and I have learned so much!

Yup, all cats and dogs can stay...anything exotic can't this includes all fish cb or not. It will most likely not pass, but just to be safe...why not take 5 mins and send an email. I am big into snakes as well, and I have never seen the reptile community so worried about this bill, this is not the first threat against our rights to keep these animals.

At first I thought you were a spammer, but this is actually happening. I'm surprised. In one outlook, it makes sense to do it...if they do pass it, can we keep captive bred corals and fish?
Surely they wouldn't pass this, it will put a lot of people out of work and cause more economic problems.

Yeah, most people start here because they have questions, so anything else seems out of the norm for a first post. I hope you stick with this forum, it's AWESOME. Best one around imo.

No way they'd let this happen. If they do, what would happen to all the LFS? What would happen to the livestock. You can't just turn everything loose in the ocean, that would be detrimental.

The problem is...a lot of these groups do not think of the after effects...the business losses..and all that....

The bill wont pass, the economy is going to get even worse if they do pass this bill and millions of people are going to loose their jobs.

Really ??Look at the cap and trade proposal and see if you still believe if our government cares how many will lose their jobs and what its going to do to the cost of energy.

Def. don't put it past our government to pass this bill. Visit that site, and send the letter to your rep. Millions of petstores will go out of business, we will lose our hobby, millions of people will be jobless. There are huge side affects to this bill. Be very polite in your responses to your reps, don't threaten, or anger them.

Ill add it to my long list of demands to my Rep.
And sign it as i always do with my name and Registered Voter.

How would anyone know what we have in our tanks? What would they do go door to door inspecting everyones tanks? I understand banning what comes in the states but that just means we need to stock up on the exotic fish and coral right?

Many of our specimens do not breed in captivity.

I just hope the nose picking duffuses who elected the moron responsible for this proposed bill will decide to let the boogers grow and accidentally allow enough oxygen to get to their brains that they will vote the fool out of office.
