Hubby's in the hospital with Sepsis

Like was stated the sepsis can lead to the low WBC's. Sure sounds like the gut was the source, and if he was on steroids allowed the infection to spread relatively unchecked with the intital signs and symptoms masked by the steroids.
Sounds like they have the bases covered for now.
Good luck and get well wishes on the way!

Oscar, never any steroids.
Jenny, thanks.
Scotts, this morning his WBC and platelet count both came back even lower!
Now we can tack on enlarged spleen and liver!
We are waiting for the new blood culture results to see if the antibiotic is even touching the salmonella or if he still has something undetected.
So that's where we are at as of today. I get to watch the Panthers game from the hospital! Woohoo.
Thanks for asking.

DAMN girl, you have me worried. I kept checking the site today hoping for good news. Not sure what else to say without sounding like a complete ass. You understand my lack of social skills.

Well I think I may have the good news you were looking for... This evening, actually now, I'm at the hospital (watching my sucky panthers) and the gastro guy came in and said that all of this is normal. The antibiotic kills the bacteria, but even then the dead bacteria is still considered a toxin in and of itself. JUST LIKE FLATWORMS!! Haha

Well when you put it that way, I think I feel a little better. Will still wait for the official good news though.
As long as we are talking football, need I remind you I am a Steeler fan?

Scotts, I'm thinking of switching teams, lol. Since I'm originally from north east Ohio, Pittsburg would be the perfect choice. Haha. Hubbys a steeler fan though.
Nina thanks!
Crypt..,, ha! Are you kidding his mom was so stinkin' paranoid! She still is. But he is the absolute Cleanest guy I've ever known! Always has been that way. Not paranoid, but extremely precautious. An his mom threw him on antibiotics every time he sneezed! But just to be fair, I'll say that she had a 12 year old daughter who they kept sending home thinking she had a cold and she ended up dead of.., bear with the spelling, rheumatic fever? So she has a right to be a little scared...

Yesterday, they gave him a shot cause his WBC kept getting smaller. They said they give the shot to cancer patients usually, and it's supposed to help boost the wbc and rbc count.
So, maybe as a result of the shot, maybe not, his wbc count is higher today.
But his hemoglobin is less, but he's not on oxygen.
He's not leaving the hospital today today though...
