Huge Mantis!!

That mantis actually looks very similar to the ones native here on the west coast. There are two types of weapons that a mantis uses to catch it's lunch, which does yours have? Clubber or Spearer? The Spearing mantis will be less damaging to your glass if he hits it, the Clubbers can shatter 1/2" thick glass when full grown. I doubt yours is done growing at 6", I've caught some here that measure 12" no problem. Invest in some tongs if you don't already have some for moving things in tank, you really don't want to get nailed by one of these it HURTS.

I'm finally back on here for an update. The mantis is doing great. He's finally decided to bust open a snail. But, still loves the variety of frozen dinners i've been getting him at the LFS. He can really hit the tongs hard when i feed him. I'd hate to get hit, ouch.
I have a piece of PVC buried in the sand for a cave for him. Sometimes, a blue damsel is in there with him. Stupid fish...........

I just received a hitchhiker mantis that someone else from these boards didnt want in their tank.. its a small lil guy.. but he is VERY cool. He peeks in and out of his little hole he claimed, constantly in search of where I am... if he sees me he jumps back in his hole. :p
I am truely dying for him to grow up and I plan to see if he can actually break the aquarium I have him in. If he does i'll try to video it :p

They say the larger ones have the striking power of a .22 bullet.

The danger of having one is the only reason I wanted one.

Well... i'd get one of those if they would last more than 5 minutes in a fish tank.

Ok finally a pic. I've taken a good 20ish pics of him so far.. none seem to come out well at all. I believe its due to the lighting on this small 10 gallon tank. He looks brown/black in the photos.. and he does have a lot of brown to him, but he is actually very colorful as well.. its just impossible to tell from this pic =c(
He has been starting to venture out of his 'home cave' as I call it.. a few crabs in the tank with him quickly scuttle away when he gets close. I still havent determined if he is a slasher or a basher yet... at first I believed him to be a basher.. today I placed a silverside in the tank and I came back to find it nearly completely cut in half by his 'home cave'.... I dunno if one of the crabs did this or if he did.. if HE did.. he must be a slasher.
