Hurricane Dennis

well, it looks like I'm at ground zero for this one. My FOWLR is looking great, just added 20lbs of LR today. However, after Ivan came through here, I know I will be w/out power for a week or two if Dennis hits.

My question: Will my tank be OK? no fish, 1 hermit crab, LR and LS. Any suggestions other than the obvious generator? :help:
Thanks for your thoughts. - Dxtr

Well atleast you don't have to worry about fish. Good luck any way.

Almost a Cat. 4 now. Not looking good for Pensacola....again.... I'm thinking my tank will be OK w/ LR and LS without the powerheads and filter running...yes? :notsure:

I'm in cape coral, tring to get generater now. I am also looking into a battery backup for computers to run power head. If you can, i would at least try and run a battery airpump for curculaton. gasses might build up in tank, and kill lr and ls.,

Thanks Lisa. I'm hoping for the best, we're still reeling from Ivan.

We went through 3 hurricanes last summer. Someone suggested floating a ziplock bag of ice if things get too hot (if you can get ice!!). We have a generator, all we need to get is gas... I live in Central Florida, after hurricane Charley last year we drove all the way to Fort Walton Beach for a generator!!! I'm going to be ready this year. Good luck, Dennis looks really scary!!!

my company will be bringing in generators on monday evening from Jacksonville, FL. Hopefully I can get one for here. However, the 2 weeks after Ivan, I was sleeping in an RV down by our warehouse! (chris farley impression)

Unfortunately in my position w/ the company, I have to be "on site" 24/7 while all the CEO's and presidents come to town....
Maybe my tank can finish cycling next week! lol :hilarious

Dexter, I am in ft. walton, and I have been wondering about the same thing. I do not have a Generator, but If your power goes out from the storm, FEMA will reimburse you for one. That is if you can get to a store. I did a search on here and several posts in 03 about inverter for car batteries to use for powering power heads, etc. Also I learned you can get the battery powered pumps in walmart in the fishing section, besides your lfs. people also suggested not to put it on the bottom of the tank 'cause it will stir things up, although for you it may not be such a problem.

G'day mates! Dennis is approaching Pensacola and guess what? My cycle is almost complete!! :jumping: lol Here's my tests from today:
Temp 80
Grav 1.025
Salinity 33
pH 8.0
Alk 5
Nitrites 20
nitrates 20
Ammonia ZERO!! woohooo
Unfortuately with the storm comming, and noone had any battery powerheads, air pumps, etc. I am now concerned that I will have to start from the begining w/ my cycle, or heaven forbid...my whole tank!

All of you in the path (I think i have the bullseye - live on Gulf beach highway 1 mile from Grand Lagoon for those who live in the area..) be safe and stay dry!
Peace! - Dxtr
