Iam about to buy a power head. Will i need the sponge(filter) to put on the Powerhead? is it safe for me just to buy the power head and not the sponge thing?

I don't have any sponges in my system. You will want something to prevent fish from getting caught though.

Also if you have any delicate animals that move a lot , you need to do something to protect the intakes (Bubble Tip anemones, nudibranches, etc..)

The put a Bio Ball on the input of my powerheads. They work great. That's the only thing I use a Bio Ball for on my system.
