I'm 6'. 240 is considered obese. Considering I was 155 in high school, I have gained a lot of weight. I don't want to get that bad knee by jogging while I am still 240 pounds. I will walk, however, I just have to find the time. I would like to be at 175-180 again and put on a little muscle too.
I'd eat the cake, then some cookies and then some chips or whatever else I could find... it's hard to stop when I am alone. If I could just manage not starting it would be better.
weight watchers is looking more promising for me right now, since my wife is also willing to try it.
Wow, I just feel a lot better talking about this with some of you.
Have you tried running? I think its great. Sorry for my post earlier....trying to help.
If you haven't ran before, I agree with Limpid.

I know you are trying to help, and I really appreciate it. I overreacted and I am sorry.
I used to run a long time ago. lol. A couple of years ago I took up with the tred mill and cut soda out of my diet and basically lost 66 pounds doing that, but I didn't really change a lot of the things that I ate.
I will start walking for now until my body gets used to it again, ... like I said a while ago, I just have to start finding the time.

I looked up the monthly cost of doing weight watchers... and it's like $20 a month per person!!! AHH... and I am fixing to start working a minimum wage job where every penny counts... now I am just depressed and upset again.

Okay try this....YOU join and let your wife benifit from the calculator they have for points. Depending on her weight will determine her points goal and it won't be hard to find out what that would be.
If $17.50 is still too much right now...then purchase the calculator they use to determine the points value of the food and we can PM back and forth..we can find out both of your points goal and I can share recipes with you...most can be found online for free.
The calculator to figure out the points on each food and writting down every single thing you eat is the only real work you have to do. I calculated every food in the house and marked it with a black magic marker right on the container....I add each thing up to determine the points on that meal or snack. If you are cooking something PM me the ingredients and I can tell you the point value on the meal.
I'm happy to help and if you can't afford it right now, we will find a way together.

You itty bitty little fellers crack me up. I got to look into this condition of which you speak, sounds like what I do.
One interesting thing I've learned is that food can set of the pleasure center in the brain just like drugs. If there is something you really like to do (other than eat) I would indulge in that as much as possible. As far as food just think portion control. Damnable thing about it is you can quit cigarettes or drugs, what do you do when you are addicted for something you need every day to live....

Seth,
You can do what me and a group of friends are doing. We downloaded the calorie counter on our iPhones. It is a free app. You enter your info and it will tell you how many calories you need to consume in a day to lose weight. Healthy is around 2 lbs a week. You also enter your exercise routines as well. It works and it is sustainable. You learn to be mindful of the foods that you are eating and make better choices.

You can get apps for Android ( I assume there is one for IOS as well) that you can use to figure out what points food has.
WW Point Calculator - you enter the stats on the food item and it tells you points.
WW Scan Calc - uses your phone's camera to scan a barcode on a food item and tells you the points.

I used to look for the nutrition sites using my computer, and sometimes the points would be on it...I did n't know about these apps right on the phone...I have to try it.

Today is a new day, and the slate is wiped clean.
I recently quit after being a smoker for 17 years... I quit after the new year started. Not easy at all, but one thing that really helped (for me at least), was to have positive mental focus. Meaning, that I would try to think that I was free of the burden of having to smoke. One of my biggest triggers was driving in the car. On the way to work I would have three cigarettes, one right when I got going, one after I ate breakfast (in the car), and one right before I got to the office. This would be the same routine day in and day out for years. When I quit, I had to make a choice to either have big cravings when I got into the car or make it a positive. So, I tried to think just how happy I was to no longer be a slave to a routine. It was very freeing.
A positive mental outlook can accomplish a lot!!! Its like verbal abuse, but opposite. If you were told every hour of every day that you are a no good SOB, pretty soon you start to believe it. Well if you were told every hour of every day that you can beat this binge eating you will start to believe that you will. Use your daughter as a focus to help. You want to break the cycle, you are doing this for her. That would be a good mental mantra to say over and over to your self.

Jeff, thank you for your support! I do want to point out that it isnt just a bad habit (those i can break) but its actually a symptom of depression.
I am going going to go to my family doctor next week and talk to him and see if i can get medically diagnosed. More than likely they will put me on some kind of depression medication temporarily until i can get better. A local church around here also provides next to free therapy that i am going to also seek out.
I told the rest of my family this morning about my condition and they accepted me and offered help. My brother and I reconciled. My mother felt like i just had a bad habit until my brother explained to her otherwise.
5% of the population of the US has binge eating disorder. So, its actually a pretty common thing if you realize that 1 in 20 people you know have it. Not justifying it by any means though.

((Hugs)) And good luck. I'm bi polar and I eat every time my mood swings. Not so great when your moods are all over the place. It's a hard battle and one I fail at daily, but we have to just keep trying. I'm sorry for your struggles, but I will be thinking about you.

Hey Seth, I'm sorry that you are going through this and like others stated above, today is a new day and you are doing the right thing by admitting this issue and manning up by taking a step forward to correct it. Hang in there and fight hard every day, it will be easier as time goes on plus, you need to be in good health for your little girl.

Seth you have the Best reason to get help called your Daughter. Trust me I know all about needing help with Weight. 2 Years ago I was close to 500 Lbs. Yesterday at my Docs I was only 380 and remember this I am on meds that cause me to Gain Weight and can not eat anything with anything that has any Artifical Sweetners in it. I only have 120 more Lbs to go so about 18 more months and I am doing it with HELP aka my Wife she is right there with me she wanted to lose some weight with me and she has dropped 40 Lbs we are going and now our Neighbor she wants in our Group. Called it can be done even on a low income called Fresh Fruit and Veggies No PACKAGED FOODS AT ALL. I cook everything from Scratch and my kids and I are Healthier because of it.
