I am a Master Toyota tech at one of the top three largest volume dealers in the Midwest. The state of the economy has effected me in such that rather than booking 20 or more flat rate hours per 8-hour day, I am down to 12-13..nd most is warranty work at that. People just are not spending money unless it is BROKEN. Either way, we have a gaurantee incase you book less than 40 a wk. Nice thing about Auto techs (and most trades in general) is they will always be in high demand!

If you speak fluent spanish the Border Patrol is hiring. USAjobs is really good. If you have a bachelors there is always substitute teaching.

I speak fluent French.
I don't have a Bachelor's, I'm finishing my sophomore year.
Hmm, what else. I'm SCUBA certified?

There is no competition when you are a Toyota Technician. You ARE THE COMPETITION. Who is going to bring their vehicle to joe schmoe when it is under powertrain warranty?

This econmy just stinks!!

Spending? Is that you're answer? What are people suppose to spend when the unemployment line is worse than Rosie O'Donnel's eating habbits?

i wish i could agree about the healthcare jobs, but i'm a nursing school graduate (didnt take my nclex boards yet) and i cant find a job! you'd think with such a demand for nurses that finding a job wouldnt be that hard. a lot of ppl in healthcare are getting laid off and taking lower level positions. plus, there's a lot of ppl losing their jobs, and therefore losing their benefits and cant afford the medical care they need. i still work as a medic, but the city of pgh is laying off paramedics left and right. the economy is really scary right now, literally. there are a lot of people losing homes, benefits, and having trouble finding the ways and means to put food on the table. i think most of us are struggling but i think its important for all of us to be grateful for what we are still able to hold on to. things will get better for me, and for you guys, too. just keep your feet moving, and eventually we'll all be able to get the lighting, skimmers, corals, and fish we need to make it all worth it!

What part of the country do you live in? My wife has been an ICU RN for almost 25 years now. She gets calls on a weekly basis from head hunters offering her all types of positions. Her unit is so short staffed, they ask her every week to take extra shifts. We're opening up two new hospitals this year in San Antonio. About 12 years ago, she got tired of flipping 300 lb behemoths around ICU beds, so she tried Home Healthcare. She'd travel all over town helping hospice and in-home patients with their meds, PIC lines, etc. Made pretty good money doing it. However, she got tired of getting woken up at 2AM because someone was having issues. So she went back to 'bedside nursing' in the ICU. She pulls in around $70K - $80K/year, depending on how much overtime she wants to work.

Thanks for the advice guys. To get a job in the marine bio field, I know I'll have to move. I was planning on moving anyway eventually. Right now I'm looking for anything, like a coffee shop.

Our last Penny Saver had 3 pages of job listings.
San Diego list of Craig had well over 300 posts today alone.
Peeps who say they cannot find work don't want to work, IMO. Sorry to sound rude, but there is no shortage of jobs here. Only shortage of people to fill them. I think the days of making $120K to surf the internet from a cubicle may be coming to an end, though.

Depends on what your specialty is. I'm an NICU nurse and this economy hit us bad. It actually started last year. Alot of our babies come from invitro interventions. This usually results in premature babies and alot of times they are twins. People are holding off on the procedure until the ecomony goes up because #1: they are a little nervous about spending 15 grand on an implantation and then #2: they are thinking about having to support multiples when their jobs aren't so secure.
I'm starting to feel a little guilty coming to work everyday praying the census picked up.
