I Dont Know How To Mount My Canopy

the plan was to make the canopy. If its premade then yes it might need to be altered.
The brackets will just hold the top up. everything will be attched to the top. Basicly your building one in reverse. Starting at the top and working down as aposed to starting at the tank and working up

lol you just made me realize that.
instead of going through all of the trouble of mounting and screwing things to hang my canopy...i think i decided on legs to suspend it. like DIY ones that clamp on the left and right sides of the tank and will hold the canopy 4 or so inches high.
not that i dont like all of the ideas Mech-a-nic gave me but they are just a little to complex for what im doing...
an example of what im looking for is: (but i will drill the legs onto the canopy so they will sit on the edges of my tank and support it)

i meant the canopy not to rest on top of the tank...i dont care about the legs. lol i should have been more clear.
the canopy is just to house my MH pendant and t5 retro lights so they are contained neatly, but i want it above the top of my tank so i can have easy access to the tank to feed and do other maintenance.

You don't need a canopy for that... Just make a wood frame to fit around it all. A canopy is way too bulky to just hang it for a shade on the lights.

i mean how do i mount that though? i need to lift it up off the tank still...

I think the first dawing offered by Mech-a-nic shows how to mount a frame for your lights. Post #2 where it says light...that would be your frame with the lights in it.

my canopy is not painted yet and its upside-down because its drying. but anyways i need to come up with some sort of mounting legs to keep it a good 6" off the water. i have a 150watt MH that gets very hot so if evaporation builds up on the MH's glass cover it will crack...which will then make the bulb crack when water gets to that. so whatever height is good enough to prevent this from happening.
anyways...mounting legs ideas mech-a-nic or anybody? thanks.
