ok thanks for all of the replies. i am pretty sure that i have enough flow because i have two powerheads going in a 24g aquarium. and i have limited my feedings to every other day. and my light is on 12-14 hours a day. i will try to lower that. i am going to test my water source and see what the the phosphate level looks like. once again, thanks.
Get a timer for your lights and limit to 7-8 hours a day for a while, make sure there are no deadspots and buy yourself and RO/DI machine. It really is the only way to make sure your water is good. I used red slime remover in my old tank worked great, corals and nem were fine. Also discovered that the frozen food I was feeding was part of the problem.

WEll I by no means am an expert...BUT I do have coraline...and sadly I do have cyano...If you look at the pic I posted you can see how the cyano is waving in the water...it is soft...a light weight mat...can easily be siphoned
coraline is hard....NOW coraline does come in pink, red, and green too but to my knowledge it is never flaky....
well to me you seem well educated!
thanks for the info.

You want to see that red stuff curl up on contact??
When I started in this hobby 5 years ago I had this stuff too, I have to thank my LFS for telling me about Erythromiacin, now when you use this stuff you use it very sparingly, remove the carbon from the filter and leave it in the tank for about 3 days then do a water change and place the carbon back in the tank.
As soon as this stuff hits the water the cyano curls up. The downside to using this is that it can alter your balance a touch but I have never had a cyano outbreak again after one use of this stuff.
The only time I did is when I downgraded my tank and had to lift the sand and disturb the bed, but I then put some of this in and no cyano again.
To give you an idea of how little it takes, I use the humand grade from the doctor or you can buy those tabs at the LFS too.
The human grade is in a capsule and are tiny beads, I took 4 of those beads for a 3 gal pico tank, crushed them up in a spoon and placed in the tank. Cyano gone the next morning and has never returned again.
I do not have a powerhead in this little tank either and the flow I would rate is low to med.
My lights are on from 8:30 am to 9:30 pm everyday.
I am not a medication person but believe me if you want to get a hold of this stuff give it a try and you will be amazed. If you use the stuff from the LFS cut the recommendation into half at least.
Good luck

thanks for all of the posting. it has helped me soo much. i am going to switch my water sources because if have found that the one that i am currently using has phosphates in it. and i am going to definately put a timer on my tank to only keep it on like 7-10 hours a day.
