i have a AquaClear Powerhead 50 and 30
Plus a Coralife Super Skimmer and a Emperor 400.
I am going to be replacing the Emperor with a Large canister soon. Also probably going to add another Powerhead 20

Good looking fish. Is it the tank, pic. or is it ICH. Look at the back fins of the butterfly. Hopefully you did not add him to the display.

thank you i didnt want to be the barrer of b ad news.
btw i dont think tht 4 months is long enough for the butterfly. they need mature tanks and prefer verymature tanks
im no sure how true this is b ut i have heard it more then once so it cant be 3 far off.
i hope tht the butterfly does well for you because as barry mentioned looks liek ich on the back fins and th pectoral fins (side i think thts it)

"This is a good first butterfly purchase, though not necessarily for a beginning hobbyist. If acclimated properly, Longnose Butterflyfish are a hardy addition"
"There is a reason why these butterflies are ever-popular. They're gorgeous and they live in captivity. Don't let their frilly looks throw you. If ever there was a "first-timers" butterflyfish, this would be the one."
I have had them before and never had any problems.

Yep its ich. Thats why your cleaner shrimp is trying to clean him, they like ich bugs. But the cleaner won't beable to get all the ich off him, i see trouble ahead, if you had him in a QT your other fish would be safer, so now you have risked your whole tank. Sorry, this is not what you wanted to hear, but it needs to be said, get him into QT asap.

I dont think a 20g is large enough even with stacked rocks..there just wouldnt be enough. Thats why they say bigger tanks for mandarins..need ALOT of rock for a LARGE pod population so it wont starve to death.
Good advice

Copper, but that is not reef safe.

You can prevent ich by quaranteeing new fish, something i admit i don't always do. Also, to prevent ich mix some garlic in the fish food, and don't put your fish through to much stress.

Setting up a small tank to hold all new fish in for afew weeks to see if they have parasites or disease before you put it in the DT and infect your fish.

I have used kick ich. It might be a preventative med, but nothing really kills ich but like hot said, copper, but it can't be used in a reef tank and sometimes harms fish, especially if not used correctly, so it can be harm then good. The best cure for ich besides preventing it in the first place, is to do hypo in a QT tank. Its lowering your salinty slowly to 0.9. Ich can not survive in such low salt level, so they die off.
