I hope I can swim.... (First venture into Saltwater 29g build)

Yep... Flower offered to hook me up with some and I'm going to take her up on it. Gonna stick it over in a corner of the tank. Maybe it will help hide the filter uptake tube. :)

Speaking of hiding... I had a thought and I'd like to run it past ya'll.
Someone mentioned using some egg crate on the back of the tank. Basically creating a fake rock wall and having a fuge along the back wall.
I have also seen folks stating that micro bubles in the tank is a bad thing (Dont understand that one so maybe someone will enlighten me)
And then I was watching my SW tank (because I didn't have anything better to do and it was feeding time) then a thought crossed my mind.
I am using a HOB Emperor 400 filter and it seems like it is putting some air bubbles into the water (possible bad thing) .... so what if I made a bubble trap out of black plexi... then I thought about taking it further. What if I put in a solid fake wall about 1.5 inches from the back and then cut stragically placed groves in the plastic. This would keep the bubbles out of the main part of the DT and it would also hide the uplift tubes on the filter. I could even put the heater back there.
I dunno... am I over thinking this?

Your not overthinking it - it's a great idea!! What macro would you use? Do you have the back of your tank painted?
I can see something like that growing... It would look like a big hedge on the back wall. :D
If you don't mind the look of the egg crate - it's a wonderful idea.
The microbubbles aren't something that is bad for your fish or corals at all.. most hobbyists just don't like the looks of bubbles in their tank. One thing about bubbles is that when they break at the surface, a tiny amount of saltwater gets sprayed everywhere - and that creates salt creep.

You know what would be good, I think... if you were to do this idea with the egg crate - would be to paint the egg crate a dark green and then mist a light green over the top of it randomly at the top... You can use Krylon Fusion spray paint. It would hide the egg crate much better for growing macroalgaes behind it and not be such an eyesore...

Keep in mind though that the light from the top of the tank will probably not reach the macro at the bottom of the tank behind the egg crate... just think about all the angles... That's why I asked if the back of your tank was painted... you could supplement the lighting with a couple of 26w CFL bulbs...

Flower posted the name of it a few posts up.... It looks similar to wavy grass. The back of the tank is painted black
As for the egg crate... I was thinking of going with a solid piece of black plexi and then cut notches in the top and bottom for flow into the back area.

also micro bubbles are bad for some sponges as they get trapped inside the sponges body creating embolisms that kill small areas of the sponges

about my nitrate levels sorry i was reading the thread and it just popped lol.

For some reason I woke up way too early. I don't do mornings!
So I'm moving around only half awake and I turn on the light to the Salt tank and as Im walking off I see two shrimp in the tank. Buuuutttt I only have one dont I? I do an about face and go back and sure enough.... two.
It would have been so much nicer if it wasn't 7am...at least my brain would have engaged a bit quicker.
Guess my shrimp is growing cause it molted :)
