I hope I can swim.... (First venture into Saltwater 29g build)

He's making me nervous. I dont see him eating much, but I think that's cause he has a small mouth. I have started pulverizing the Formula One. Seems like he doesn't even bother going after the bigger stuff, but the smaller pieces he will attempt.
Today I got a thing in the mail for 20% off my next SW purchase.... and whatcha know... I'm off work tomarrow. Wonder what I will be doing besides cutting the grass :)

Yeah... I guess so. I may end up getting one of those other fish we discussed via text if they are still there. I think they also had some emerald crabs. Would I be going wrong getting one of those?

Nope. :) i think you would be doing great. Try getting one of those small black brittlestars as well. They are great at cleaning up excess food particles.

I dont remember seeing any of those... but they did have a chocolate chip star.  Should I consider one of those?
NO! choc stars get 15" and eat coral.

My saltwater tank has claimed it's first victim!
It's eating starters like they are candy. About a week ago my light wouldn't work so I replaced the starter and everything worked perfectly. Then today I have the same problem. Well... I'm too much of a redneck to let that stand in my way.
I pulled one of the clamp lights off my small photo studio and have it clamped to the side of my tank. I see an honest to goodness redneck retrofit in the works. I see me suspending two of the clamp lights with 10" reflectors above the tank. Probably put in 75W CFL's. Then the light will be well away from the surface of the tank vs. sitting on the lip of the tank.
When I first put the clamp light on today it had a 100w CFL and as soon as I turned it on the fish said... holy hell.... and ran for cover.
Had to switch out bulbs to something smaller... although I dont like it. The 100w was the cool white variety and this one is more yellowish in color.

That sucks. Try to get 75w cool whites and you know you will have to replace them once every 3 months. That can get expensive. Coralline can definitely grow under that type of light - I have coralline growing like crazy in my sump/refugium with two 26w CFL's.
Is your electrical work connected to a GFCI outlet?

I have coraline growing in my sump with just twisty bulb running in my fuge lol.

I know this is gonna sound crazy... but I'm hoping it doesn't set up shop in my tank. It would be fine if it just stayed on the rocks... but no..... it want's to cover everything.
I hope I don't jinx myself with this question.... but when does the algae's normally show up? The diatoms and cyno? It seemed like every time I read someone just set up a tank they showed up very shortly after the first inhabitants.

Not a lot has changed on the tank. I've taken out one of the Korela 240's and put in an Evo 550. The rock work is still the same and I have three little inhabitants. And yes.... all the rocks are setting on glass :)
Currently there is only one bag of substrate in there so it's not very deep. I am thinking I probably need something in there to keep the substrate stirred up.

As soon as you ask where it is!! LOL Bawhahahaha. Just kidding.
Every tank is different but most will get diatoms in the beginning. If you did not get them, then great!! But really I would not be surprised if it starts to show up now that you jinxed yourself.

Lol, yea diatoms come and go whenever you add new rocks usually.
Cyno follows soon after depending on your flow in the tank.

For my seahorse tank, I was pretty lucky. I only had a mild case of diatoms. It was just a small splotch on the glass. I really took my time with setting that tank up.
