I hope I can swim.... (First venture into Saltwater 29g build)

Got some new stuff in today for the tank.
Would like to thank Flower for helping clean up my tank.

Once my weekend finally rolls around then I'll try to aquascape. Right now it's just placed in there. What kind of light cycle do I need? Since I've just had a FOWLR I've only been using the lights for viewing purposes.

My regular light intervals is currently maybe an hour at best, and some days I don't even turn the light on because there is enough ambient light to see the fish.

Well, that's not enough for both fish, shrimp and the algae.
I suggest you put that sucker on a timer and let it do it's thing (about 6 hrs a day)

that shall to pass my friend. Have patience and continue to put flow towards that area.

I need some advice. I have an opportunity to upgrade my tank to a 240g tank. I know this would allow me to keep pretty much anything I wanted to but I'm not sure how much work it would be.
How much more work would it be for a 240 gallon versus a 50 gallon tank?

A 240g tank ...means more water made up for a water change and more water for top offs. Your own RO unit if you don't already have one is a must because taking trips to the LFS for saltwater or the local Walmart for RO water would no longer be so easy.
The rest the rest of what the tank needs are upgrades. More light, bigger filter, bigger skimmer, more sand, more rock. So set up is going to cost a bit, but the actual work of the tank will be the mixing and changing of water....LOL...you might invest in a snorkel to reach the bottom of the tank.
If I had the money and space to do it...I would go for it in a heartbeat.

As flower said... more light, more sand, more rock.
Anyways, you don't really have to have a skimmer on the tank. Just use some macroalgae in a fuge or in your display tank.
Water changes can be done simply - with brute trash cans on rollers. If you drill the tank in the side or an extra hole in the back, they are even easier to do with cans on rollers.

it depends on how you do them. if you stir up all of the detritus with a powerhead beforehand and let the filter catch what you can't siphon out - you should be good with monthly 40g water changes.
You should really consider investing in an RO/DI unit if you haven't already. You can even use the water to cook and drink.

You are absolutely right! lol
This is what I get for skimming on my phone hahahahaha.

I think my diatom algae is finally starting to play itself out. It's starting to change colors on the glass. I'll be glad to see this stuff go.

What is this pink stuff that has decided to show up now that my diatoms are dying out. It's on this rock, the front glass, and just a little on the sand bed?
