don't worry, you will be fine. Once the trites go down, do a big water change and siphon all the rock and sand for dead matters and add a fish and observe. I think you are almost there buddy.

Seems like it's coming along. I'm anxious to find out what you are going to do with the tank.
At this point... so am I. Right now there is not really any concrete plans on the tank. I know it will have one or two clowns, and some shrimp... but other than that. I dont really know.

Since I really need larger powerheads... I had a thought. Once I get another one I am thinking of zip tying a small one to a handle... then I can move that one around to blast the crap off the rock work and get it suspended in the water column again so the filter can deal with it.
people see diatom blooms in the beginning when cycling or soon after the cycling is done.
Algae is bit after that if the light bulbs are going bad and giving out bad spectrum or too much nutrient in your water as well as too much lighting. It can happen at any time depending on the hobbyist.
I'm thinking the Live Rock I bought from ***** is more like wet rock. It's not helping bring my 'trites down very quickly. Still a bit over 2.0 ppm.
Everyone can say that patience is the name of the game in salt... but after this I'm a firm believer that those of you who cycle your tank with active LR and Live sand are just impatient LOL
Looking back at this thread... I am 3 days shy of it being two months for my cycle with dry sand and base rock. I will admit.. I am starting to get impatient. I want to see a critter in the tank.
'trates are somewhere between 0 and 5.0
Time to start ghost feeding again, and once I get the rest of my equipment in I will get to add some critters. Guess it's time to go on a shopping spree
Ok.... just for informational purposes... cycling my tank took 2 months and a day. I am so glad to finally have that out of the way. Now I can concentrate on critters and keeping them happy.
Wahoo!!
What are you thinking about adding??
Thinking about blue and yellow hippo, lionfish, maroon and yellow clown, anemonie, mandarine goby, panther grouper, and some shrimps and starfish.
Eventually I am going to have to come down to reality and get some shrimps and some sort of clown other than the maroons. Now all ya'll can stop screaming at the computer saying.... no... no.... no you cant have those in that tank.
Just got some more goodies ordered.
Got two bags of IO salt. That should keep me in water changes for a day or two.
Got a couple of heaters. One for the QT tank and one for the mixing container.
Got an Emperor Filter for the QT tank
Got an Evo 550 to replace one of the nano 240's that I was stupid enough to buy.
Also got PocketExpert Guide to Reef Aquarium Fishes: 500+ Essential-to-Know Species
Now I just need to get the QT tank (either going to be a 10g or 20g) and a mixing container.
And of course the inhabitants. Wont be long and I'll have me some of those as well. Even if it's just a shrimp to start.
Ok... maybe corals aint gonna be my thang.
I was looking at livestock on a site that I regularily buy my supplies from and found a beautiful Neon Orange/Green Aussie Button. Then I bout fainted. $450
