Flower... do you know if there is a good online source for info on the Macro's. Seems everyone is doing a reef... if there is some nice enough macros... I may take another route.
Few things in this world can outdo the beauty of a well done reef tank....Golf coast ecosystems is where I go, macros are seasonal. I'm sure there are others. Google macroalgae and see what comes up. There are red, brown (golden), and green macros. Some are for cold, and some for warmer temps so do your research.

Keeping the updates on this build going.
Take a little of this

and mix in a little bit of this

and Im left with this once it all settles into place

That is only one of the 10 lb bags of Aragonite sand. I probably need to at least add half of another bag especially over on the left side. Probably cant go wrong with the whole bag. There are a LOT of caves in that rock pile for the critters to explore. Almost every rock I picked had either holes in it or some sort of indention that could be used as a cave. That is only around 20lbs of dry base rock.
Now its time to start my cycle process by ghost feeding

In a small tank, a little sand is best. That way nothing gets trapped in it. Those are some pretty dark pieces of rock....dry rock I have seen always looked more white.

Did you rest the rock directly on the bottom glass? You don't want anything digging under them and get crushed. Also creates a dead spot were it traps organics, not good.

I got those record books in today so I can keep track of my tank info. They are worth every penny... and there wasn't that many pennies involved. The lines are clean and crisp and the hardback cover is nice.
I also got that invert book that Flower keeps showing off. I think I messed up with that one. Now my "I wanna" is going crazy. I just did a quick thumb thru since Im trying to get some work done. Heaven help me when I get time to properly look at it.

You can grow macro algae in your tank.
Many don't do it because it will grow every where and it will clash with coral. So usually it's one way or the other.
Benefits are there, it will absorb your nitrates and your phosphates and also suck in co2 in water and help to put more oxygen in tank hence indirectly helping with alkalinity.
Also fish like tangs will love grazing on it.
I have it in my fuge because it's easily controlled and for it's benefits and I don't want it to kill or mess with my corals. I try not to stick my hands in there as much as I possibly can.
If you change your mind later, it will be hard to remove them from your DT as well.
BTW, tank is coming along well!

Thanks for the input Siptang.
Im afraid I would have the tang police after me if I got one. They would be screaming bloody murder about puting it in a tank around 30 inches long.
I was looking at the big benifits of the macros.... and while the corals are pretty, they don't have the benefits of the macros. Dunno... Im still up in the air about them in the DT.

I get that all the time too and I get frowned up on on many decisions that I make or some of the stocking advices.
However, it's your decision to make.
29g is bit small and if you are interested in BRIGHT yellow color, you can try lemon peel angel fish. You would need more rock works to make this happen though.
I have 2 dwarf angels in my tank and many people think it's hard to do in my limited space but I have had no problems with them fighting or any aggression towards anything in my tank.
Make more caves and places where they can find shelter if they get scared and territory that they can call their own then you should be in good shape.
Just be sure to make your list of things that you want and add to your tank slowly from least aggressive to the more aggressive ones.
Do you have a sump? if not, you should consider on making one or buying one. Benefits of having one is too much to put it in words.
I will soon show you a pic of how I did my macro algae set up.

Currently I don't have a sump. Im using a Emperor 400 HOB filter.
I've been really considering the Lemon peel angle though. I'm thinking for the majority of the tank inhabitants I want to go for things I cant get in freshwater. Like the colorful shrimps, and starfish and crabs and such.
IF I move everything over into one of the bigger tanks (either the 45g column or 52g) I'll probably add a live macro fuge. I'd love to see some of the macro benefits in my 29 though that's why I was asking about them in the DT.
I still need to get that fish book that Flower shows off... then I can really sit down and make my list. I know what I want, but most folks here frown on it. It would be like having a more colorful version of my African Cichlid tank. I'd love to have my 52g with nothing but rocks and various colorations of damsels.

I would definitely try an dwarf angel providing that you will provide more rock work. :)

Yeah...there is going to be more rock. That was the best that they had to choose from. In a few weeks I'll go back and see what else has come in.

If you are looking for live rock, check craigslist. I would NEVER pay for 8.99 per pound. I usually get around 1$.50 to 2 if the deal is right.
