I killed two tanks w/ one move...

I was putting my new 44 pentagon in my room today (cause pops wanted it out of the garage), and I was carrying it by my 29, and somehow managed to hit the corners of the tanks together. Well, aparently, a real easy way to chip glass is to hit it with another peice of glass right on the edge.

So, what I'm stuck with now is chipped corners on both of my tanks. The 29's pretty bad, but the 44's not too terrible.
Right now there's about 1/16 of an inch of glass and some silicone holding the water in the 29 at a small spot on the corner, and the whole chipped edge is maybe 6" long. I'm thinking if I put some silicone on it, it should be ok for a while.
And the 44 isn't bad at all... there's a few small chips that went maybe a 1/4 of the way through... so some silicone on that should hold it for a while.
Anyway, what do you guys think? Time for a new 29? Any idea what it should run? Or, any way to fix it? Maybe get a new peice of glass and replace it?
Thanks for any advice. :)

If you just have to buy the glass tanks and nothing else with it...they can usually be had for a reasonable price...they start making the bucks when you buy all the supporting hardware for it...but you already have that.

Been there, done that. Replacing is the only way to go. Unless you are good at glass work. Then all you have to do is buy the glass and silicone. It sounds like you have broken the 29 to the point of possibly affecting the integrity of the glass.Just the adding of water or putting your arm in the tank can put stress on that spot and pop. It might not break today or next week but it will break. Then you will wish you had spent $40 to buy a new tank.

You'll be so much happier with a new tank. No worries about leaks and the piece of mind alone will be worth it.

yeah... guess I'm going to get a new tank. Then, I can try to fix the 29 and I'll have a place to put my goldfish (he's almost outgrown his 10g).
But, I'm wondering if the 44's going to be ok. It's not chipped very bad, but just enough to bother me. I've put silicone on the outside of the 29 for now, until I can figure out what to do w/ the 44.
One of my friends told me to go to Petsmart and make sure they have the same tank sitting on display or in stock somewhere. Then bring that one up there, and tell them it was a birthday gift from my grandparents and they didn't give me the receipt, and when I was filling it up to check for leaks I noticed it was cracked. He said they should exchange it for a new one.
Not honest, but hell... not a bad idea. What do you guys think? Anyone else ever pull it off?

Dude, don't do that.:nope:

LOL...ya...let us know how that works for ya :) I would love to see the look on their faces when you tell them that and they get a smell of the tank.

well... the tank's clean. It was pretty dirty when I got it, so I spent about 2 hours cleaning it. It doesn't smell like it's been used, and it doesn't look like it's been used. Except for the cracks in the side... lol. Maybe I can talk my friends into doing it. :D I hate doing stuff like that.

Hey, if your going to burn someone with the tank, at least do it to someone like *****. IMO, it could be their bad carma being paid back after burning me on some fish. But, that may cause bad carma for you as well. Let me know if it works (not that I wanna try to do the same thing, but I'd like to see how the story ends).:joy:

Ya, I would let your friend do it. I tried something like that once. I bought a pair of Nike Air's back when i was 14...wore them a year or so..then took them back and said something was wrong with them! :D The looks I got were priceless. What can I say... It was a dare, and I DID get a new pair :)

Get 'er done! :D
The Nike story is funny. Probably funnier for me because I work with a guy who actually does trade his in. They've got a lifetime guarentee on them. Works for him. Wonder what the warranty on a AGA Tank is?
