They look like sand sifting stars....sorry to say, but will more than likely starve to death. There is nowhere near enough food in a new tank to feed these. If at all possible I would bring them back
Is there no way to add food for them? I need to make a trip to the LFS for a refractometer. I could ask if they will take them back.

Not really....they eat the stuff in the sand,
the snails you have are the Astrea snails.....great glass cleaners and algae eaters...do NOTHING for the sand though
see if you can get some nassarius snails and some cerith snails
I hate hermits just cause they will kill the snail for their shells....I keep very few hermits
For crabs, I like the emerald and the sally lightfoot...

The good news is that I got my refractometer and they said that they would take back the stars. I talked to a different person then the guy who sold them to me. He said he would never put a star in his own tank.
The bad news is that they didn't have any nassarius snails or cerith snails. He said he could order them, but I'm thinking maybe I should just order them myself from SWF.
I currently have 35 of the turbo's in my 90 Gal. How many nassaruis and how many cerith do you think I should get? Also, what types of goby would you recommend? I already made the mistake of picking up a golden headed sleeper goby with out doing the research. More LFS bad advice. I believe he may have become a tasty cat treat. He disappeared two days after I got him and I haven't seen a nitrate spike. Now I know that they need a mature sand bed, refugium is recommended and they like to jump.

They are also known to hide.....so you never know
I would get at least a dozen nass..and a dozen cerith to start with
Glad the lfs will take them back for you

Yes. Pellets every other day and I just tossed a frozen krill in there earlier today.
Well I would toss the pellets (not in the tank..lol) Seriously they are not that great, I havethem, BUT after learning about good foods I only use them for a snack, maybe once a week
You have no fish yet, but when you get some...get some frozen mysis, marine cuisine, emerald entree these are good foods to feed them
pellets and flakes add to nitrates, and are like potato chips
p.s. I do not think krill has much nutritional value either....not 100% on that unless you soak them in vitamins.....

I actually do have three fish in there. Four if the golden head sleeper goby is still alive. After doing some reading I'm thinking that I moved too fast here, but so far no ammonia or nitrites. Could be from using the established rock I guess. I have two clowns, a royal gramma, possibly a golden head, two peppermint shrimp, the stars (which are going back), snails and crabs.
I've been following the advice from the LFS which seems like has been mostly bad when it comes to adding fish and inverts.
The food that I've been giving them is New Life Spectrum Marine Formula 1mm sinking pellets. No idea if that's good or bad. It's what the LFS guy told me to use.

I would, at this point with this fish guy, depend more on my own readings and the thoughts of people here vs your LFS guy. Sorry but they seem to lead you in to many bad directions. I feel lucky, my LFS guy will argue with you before he will sell you something you probably dont need in your tank.

Look for those foods that Meowzer suggested. Even your big Pet stores will carry some of this stuff. Or just order some from SWF when you get your snails.
Good Luck and post some PICS!!

The whole gallery of pic's that I'm keeping to document my adventures in reef keeping is at http://www.lizandscott.com/gallery2/...7143&g2_page=1
Here are some individual pics.
Shot of whole tank:

A coral that hitched a ride on one of my rocks. The color has returned and it appears to be doing well:

A pest anemone that I had to wipe out and what appears to be some kind of coral (yellow polyps?) that hitched a ride on the rock:

My Golden Headed Sleeper Goby. He's MIA. Don't know if he's hiding or if he jumped:

My Royal Gramma:

My only confirmed causality so far. A Black Cap Basslet. I was misinformed about how to acclimate. I was slowly adding water to the bag while it was floating in the tank. He jumped out and swam away when I first tried to add a little water. Died a few days later:

My pair of Clowns:

The purple rock that came from an established tank was completely infested with aiptasia. My LFS gave me two peppermints for free to combat the problem. They were slacking and it was spreading. I ended up using a product called Aiptasia X to eradicate most of it. The shrimp seem to be taking care of the little ones that I missed.
Today I will have the joy if setting up my QT. My clowns appear to be getting some fungus. Small white cottony spot. Any tips for setting up the QT? I picked up a 10 gallon tank and an air pump.
You can see the white spot at the base of his fin:

Go to the disease section and look up lymphocystis
Everything you need to know is there, and that's what it looks like to me
easy to cure, and not contagious (usually)
