OK...the other day I posted in my starfish thread that my orange linckia's (had since 7/2010) legs seem to be deteriorating.....My BTA has also split, AND today my crocea clam (had since 9/2010) is practically dead.....it is not closing, is retracted and the tangs are eating it (dead)
OK....SOOOOO I RE-Ran all my water tests
ammonia, nitrite and nitrate are all 0
Phosphates: 0.03
PH: 8.3
Calcium: 450
ALK: 8.3 DKM or 2.07 meq/l
Mag: 1250
TEMP: 80
Everything else in the tank...sps, lps, fish, brains....are all doing great
ANYONE have any ideas what could be going on? I don't have anything else to test for

I'm sorry to hear this, but I'm not sure what it could be. It seems that only invertebrates are being affected. Did this all happen after the blue linkia was added? Hopefully, someone will come along and be able to crack this mystery.

So sorry to hear of your troubles. My sepent star lost it's arms after my heater electocuted the tank..can you test stray voltage? Just grasping at straws here, and want to help.

I guess you can say that.....But the blue linckia...altho it is in a cave....from what I can see of it, it looks fine
It may just be one of teh UNEXPLAINED mysteries
....I just don't know what else to look for

NOPE...can not test for it....I do have a probe in this tank though.....BUT I think if it was something like that, the delicate sps would be affected.....

i think the star and clam both dying is pure coincidence in this case.
i just lost my clam to but lost it pyramid snails. look if you can find them around still. while its a long shot, your clam may have not been getting enough light in the long run. i was running some par tests with 250w 72" orbit and i was getting some pretty low numbers

Well that's disturbing :( I use 14K Phoenix bulbs, and I have 8 T5ho....the crocea is in the mid to top of this tank too :(
I can see nothing on it either

Linkias are very susceptible to osmotic shock. Has your salinity fluctuated recently?
Also know that Linkias are hard to keep long term.

try upping your mag too. while its probably not related it will help keep stuff more stable. and what are you testing your dkh on, salifert?

From wetwebmedia
This genus of starfish has a dismal survival record. Those that survive the collection/shipping process still acclimate poorly...those that survive acclimation are usually doomed to slow starvation. This starfish rarely, if ever, accepts offered foodstuffs (clam, shrimp, whatever), and thus requires large amounts of live rock in order to meet its nutritional requirements...which may also beg the question "is this animal truly reef-safe" as it will surely scour the emergent life from your rock

....I thought a 225G with 200lbs of live rock would be sufficient.....apparently not....NOW I have the blue linckia....I will never get another star then
HENRY, does this actually pertain to ALL stars?
