Baised on what I can find, the water level is up to you. If you set it too high it will overflow. By setting the water level lower it will cause the skimmate to become more dark in color. This is another thread about skimming wet or dry. As for nosie, what is noisy? If it is the air intake then you can build a muffler for it pretty simply.

Pistol shrimp are pretty cool. I had one...not sure if it's still alive since my tank crisis....I had it paired with an Orange Spotted Goby (which I lost from him jumping out of the temporary tank) and it was really amazing sitting there watching the 2 of them. The goby would stand guard, while the shrimp did its digging and landscaping non-stop.
IMO....you want to be sure it is a pistol shrimp and not a mantis as a mantis will just about kill everything in your tank. Google it....they are really amazing creatures.

Well its the motor that is making the noise, but when I reduce that amount of air flow the noise goes away....witch is fine. But if you look at the picture that I have marked, that is where the water line in the skimmer is. When I take the air reducer off, the line lowers, more bubbles in the top of the skimmer. Do you think that I have enough micro bubbles now to skim properly.

I looked at some pictures and I think it is a pistol shrimp, but I'm not really sure. My LFS told me the same thing.

IDK if I follow you corectly here. Are you saying the water line lowers or the level of bubbles lowers?
Do you get more or less bubbles when you remove the reducer?

What is going on here!!!!! This is not Saltwater related at all.
Oh my friend but it is. There is a wealth of information on this site. It does not come with out a price however. The members here are not at the beacon call of hobbyist asking redundant questions or questions that indicate that they have done no research on their own what’s so ever. Any banter is most likely between posters who have already given valuable advice. This banter IMO is to put a smile on the face of constant contributors to this site, with out which I fear the boredom will lead to mass defection

Something that works on the backend of the cycle as well.
If you have issues with amm or nitri, you are doing something seriously wrong, like having a 15" Lion in a 55gal or are pouring in amm with your topoffs...
What kinda of fish is ur avatar, aquaknight?

The amount of bubbles increases. I guess my question is, does it matter the amount of bubbles at the top of the protein skimmer? Does more or less affect the performance?

I understand Joe, I do to have room for humour. But I did do research all over this forum which none of it I found the appropriate answer to my questions. This has become one of my most visited sites. Maybe I missed them or something of that matter but the fact is, I just wanted help. Maybe if you would set up some dialect with me before posting something humours I may get it. But I didn't, which is why this forum needs a instant chat.

I am very appreciative of all the help I can get and as I learn I plan on helping new comers with their "redundant" questions too. That's why I don't understand when you say, "The members here are not at the beacon call of hobbyist asking redundant questions...". Isn't it the purpose of this category of thread? New Hobbyist? Isn't why the website pays for the servers to run to help new comers find help to basic questions? You are paying to use the forum. And my price to be here is the knowledge that I will provide to others from information that I learn from people like you.

Threads like this is why there so many more new comers than senior members. (~>50 posts) There are competing forums.

The way I understand it, the more air the better. Now this is too a point. Too much air and the skimmer will essentually be dry. If it runs more quietly and the increase of air bubbles isn't causing it to over flow, then I would run it that way for now. I would keep an eye on it. There are things that will cause a skimmer to go nuts and over flow the collection cup. I would think the more air in the unit the more prone it would be to reacting to a tank addition. If I am thinking correctly, your tank is new. So you wont be adding anything for some time. As I said I am not familiar with the skimmer you have, so I can't really say what the best way is to run it.

No in my opinion the purpose of this category is to help new hobbyists tweek fundamental information they should have already acquired to meet their individual circumstances. Just out of curiosity I wonder how may new hobbyists have taken the time to read * 101 Tips to Beginning and Maintaining a Saltwater Aquarium, * *Very long and good advise, * A List of Extremely Helpful Threads for All Hobbyists members have worked long and hard preparing this information but to me at least to many people what to be spoon feed information
I am not talking about you in particular but for someone to get annoyed to the point of starting a survey or stating this is not about saltwater because the very people that are trying to help you are also trying to have some fun with each other seems a little selfish to me
Tired of nonsence when posting a legitimate question?
Does this mean answer my question but answer it on my terms

Ya my tank is brand new like only 2 weeks, but I already have a clean up crew. That's all I plan on adding for some time. I couldn't believe how fast it cycled! I think I'm going to take your advise and leave it like it is. I need to read about wet and dry skimming.

Well, I don't know about you. But when I read a thread that has a lot of useless info in it somtimes its hard to keep things on track and to ultimatly help solve a problem. And you are talking about me! The survey obvously shows that there are others that are tired of schanagins in their posts. Like I said before, humor is cool when both parties understand. This may sound crude but, you didn't post one piece of useful information in my thread before trying to be humourous. I don't know you, and without and dilect I really didn't care for it. My point is that this is supposed to be a learning enviroment for people to come and post questions. Here is the kicker, you don't have to help!!!! If your tired of anwering redudant questions, then why don't you stop, or rather even pay attention to us newbies? You come off like there is only one way to do things and it is all found in the sticky threads. No. I read ALL of those, so thanks! Plus I'm tired of arguing to you about how a fourm should be operated. I'll just go somewhere else.
