Personally, I've thought about them ALOT! I pet one in a store once. They are so soft and it also, very gently nibbled my hand! You know like a dog will do when cleaning. Very cool!
I went as far as buying a book and reading about them. I think the thing that turned me off was, (I read) they are kind of skiddish of strangers.
Also, I was worried about what my dogs would do. If you get one, keep us updated.

I love chinchillas. Pretty easy to care for, just feed them a bland diet of pelleted food & hay, keep the temp for them below 75 (heat stroke can hit them quickly above 80), & don't get them wet (supply a dust bath instead). My chinchilla used to play with my dog. She also loved belly rubs.

Cool..glad someone else appreciates them :)
My apartment stays at a cool 71 degrees :p no worries about heat stroke.
