I will make SWF.com mad at me for this one!

I don't understand what the big deal is.
I found alot of online distributors and have had live sand and a 160 gallon bucket of salt shipped to me.
I for one would never want to buy all that stuff from SWF.com as I know that they would have prices higher than other companies that specialize in moving those items daily. Not only that, forcing them to buy the shipping containers and facilities for heigh weight bulk.
I for one would rather that they focus on live corals, fish, inverts, and plants. I for one would not want this site to become walmart. I would rather have them there to sell me the off the wall stuff I would never be able to find anywhere else on my own. I have found numerous sites that move this stuff daily at better prices.
Unless they would become exclusive distributors of British Fish n' Chips salt or something that I couldn't find easily.
With that said, dropping the minimum order prices is your own folly. I for one do not want to spend buko bucks to ship one fish or coral to me anyway. Whenever I buy from a site it is usually at least 150 bucks to take advantage of the shipping costs.

There is truth to all that you say but I wouldn't want to tell them how to run their business because they give us this nice chat site. I myself only order on line if I can talk to a real person on the phone if there is a question or a problem. Lesley

Yes I know I am very new to chatting online.. Not so new to buying online. I live on another

[hr]
site. I have been in the salt water for more years than I care to remember lived in Pearl City Hi. for 4 and a half years, one thing that I have found out is that I do like to suport the LFS. if and only if they are not there to rip you off, I will tell him when he is.. I own enough pets in my house to open a petting zoo the monthly food bill is close to $150.00 I have two young boys who want to become Vets so I consider it a investment.. Here is my point. find a local large company that has a URL and check the online price go to the store and have them match that price.. 9 out of 10 times they will. 160 gal bucket of salt mix $47 and change.. on line $35. the last time I did this the manager looked at me smiled and said "you do your home work dont you" well if I save $75.00 by doing so you bet I will. thats what I saved the last time. its easy, every city has a large store. Yes I look here and everyplace else. I want what I want when I want it. not going to wait for them to get it in. not going to wait for them to order it. shouldnt have to they know what it takes to run a store and they know what they should be stocking, we shouldnt have to tell them. BUY LOCAL IF YOU CAN, IT HELPS WITH THE LOCAL TAXES. yours and theres but dont buy if the LFS isnt willing to adjust prices nothing is set in stone and they have bills to pay also. they buy from the same places as the large companys do they have a larger markup because of a lesser inventory ..... the end ..... I could go on but I'm Bored now... Talk with you soon love ya wish you all good health...Brian

as far as drygoods go---getting drygoods probably isn't the easiest with being able to carry them at great prices...alot of manufacturers will demand a minimum order, which can be thousands at a time...that can be a big hit when you want to get a lot of drygoods and from different companies...and the less you order the less that vendor is going to give you a deal on, so your retail price then shoots up..so on and so forth

my take...
what swf chooses to sell is their choice.
dont like it? shop elsewhere. its no different than brick/mortar retail.
some stores have it for cheaper than others. hopefully, admin will read everyones opinion and take this under review.
now, for min order charge....
being in logistics, i can tell you overnite shipping is not cheap.
swf has a $79 moq (minimum order quantitiy), and you get free shipping.
the alternative is this:
keep the $79 moq for free shipping, or:
anything less than $79, the customer pays shipping and accessorial charges.
simple fix.
personally, i would love to order from this site as well, but i cannot find $79 worth of livestock that i want or, can properly house, in order to be able to order (i have a bc 14). those of you with larger tanks have that advantage. if i really wanted that $15 lettuce nudi, and am willing to pay for the fsc (fuel surcharge), handling (picking/packing) and overnite freight, then fine: its my choice and my money.
just my honest opinion.

Very good point! I would vote than in! So If I want just one thing let me buy it. if I want more and go over $79 it is an added bonus for me!

Totally Agree, It's hard to fill an order with what you want, due to not being available, not wanting to get filler items to get to the minimum. But Up here this is the most reasonable way to get good Quality Items, other than the Drs. not many reefers in out state MN to go in on an order or to trade with like down in FL ot the east coast.
You think they might do that so as to get rid of certain stock ? It would make sense you want something bad enough you will buy it and and fill the order with other things to be able to use your credit. You will buy things you do not need it is like the impulse section at wal-mart your in line their is a coke or candy or batteries or lighters etc just to get a few more bucks out of ya.
Personally it seems like a way to make a few extra bucks and a good idea.

I wanted to buy several things the other day but for my 70 dollars in goods it was going to cost me 60 something dollars in fuel sircharge shipping and whatever else they had added in so I bought it from another site. I have done this about 10 times in the past 3 months and NEVER buy from swf.com other than liverock or sand... They are losing my money that is for sure with their shipping prices. I have spent over 10k since febuary on fish and fish tanks supplies and only $300 to swf.com because of their shipping. I bet they would have liked the extra 10k though.

I have never ordered from here, the livestock 79 dollar thing stops me. As far as dry goods go..well.... NOBODY (and I have done my homework) beats our friends - -

and

[hr]
they shipped me 2 buckets of salt , 106 lbs mind you for 60.00 + only 10 shipping! you just cant beat that. I agree if they can't supply us or be more competitive with the prices
let us be!! I also think this is a very small company, more then likely they are just ordering as we order, I have been in many different types of businesses and we called this type of thing, "being the junk man" just pushing paper , no touch just add 20-30% profit and never touch the product. Hey that's fine, I mean this is America! but in America we should also be able to communicate with eachother , like I said if you cant compete.......

I just skimmed over this thread and tend to agree with the majority. I have ordered from this site for 2 years and keep coming back because of the amazing customer service. The lack of livestock is a recent problem that led me to consider my recent order my last. I have had a few problems with some shipments and condition with the livestock received, but rarely complain.
Until now. But I will not post my problem publicly.
But I did realize that I have a phone number for saltwaterfish.com
The company called me about my order and this post caused me to investigate further.
The telephone number I have is not the same listed on the contact page.
When I order, I order big. So the minimum is not a concern for me.
After this last shipment I have to ask, has there been a change in ownership?
I can work with most anything and can find a place for everything among my tanks. I am just glad the mislabeled snails were destined for my puffer tank as snack food and not ordered to be part of one of my reef tanks.

I actually saw a saltwaterfish.com box truck driving around palm beach county a couple of weeks ago.
I couldnt believe it and wanted to take a picture with my camera phone, but couldnt get it out quick enough. not sure what it was delivering, but there it was driving around.

There are 5 fish that I've been wanting - all wishlisted. I wish just one would show up. I've ordered from here 3 times in the past without this problem. Now I'm starting to look elsewhere also, but I'm hoping that the stock on SWF will show up before I finally give up. In comparison - the prices here crush the prices at my LFS, even with the extra for shipping.

Processing and fuel charges are $20, not $60.

Since you know everything how about I order it and send you the bill for everything over 20 bucks shipping.
I was charged shipping and fuiel charge for each indavidual dry good item Now then how about you not try and correct me on what I was being charged... I get so irritated with someone telling me what i was going to pay or did pay...
