Looks like either Porites or Fire Coral to me. Does it have tiny polyps (Porites) or fine hairs (Fire Coral).
I'm leaning toward Porites.

ok ok i know terrable picture
I just looked, and i can see tiny little polyps on the edge.
also, i dont think the acropora completelydead. there are a few branches that look different. they are brown , where the other branches are white
I am going to try and get some better pictures.
I need to know what to do with this. I dont have MH yet. I bought 2x250 used set yesterday, and wont get it until next week.

I would leave the dead skeleton on until any living coral grows out. The sooner you get more light the better. Don't start the lighting up at full force once you get the new lights, the corals will have to acclimate to the brighter light.

bang, i was'nt planning on putting these lights on my 55 gal, i dont have a canopy, (they are for my 150 thats not set up yet). but was thinking about putting one on my 10 gal. and moving frags, and now this coral to it. will one 250 mh be too much light, if i put it about 10 inch above tank??

That's a great idea.
It's not too much light but start with the bulb a lot higher if you can to allow the corals to acclimate to the brighter lighting.
