ID Please!

This may be a stupid question, but my live rock has small brown mounds all over it with a little dimple in each one. They almost look like a tiny volcano. I was just curious what they are from, so if someone asks me, I can sound smart. Thanks.

Its tough to say without a picture, post one and you may get some responses. I would say it could be some type of algae, but post a picture so we can see it.

sweet! looks like you got some species of mushrooms (i think). Don't worry they aren't a problem if they are mushrooms. I had a rock for over a year and then one popped up.

no, it doesn't look like that....it's darker brown, and looks more like a mountain with a dimple in the middle...and the rock has them all over it...

they don't seem to move either...I think they are left over from something that used to live on the rock before I got it
