2nd picture, out of the water.
IF this is a whelk, do I need to get out the 12 gauge and start shooting?
Right now, the tank (125g) has only live rock curing in it. I plan on adding inverts, fish and corals at some future date so I'm hoping to prevent any future problems with the hitchikers I'm finding.
Worse than a Whelk... I think you've got a Murex there.
Could be a Chicoreus sp.... perhaps Chicoreus zululandensis. (had to look up the spelling on that puppy!)
Based on the pictures at: http://www.gastropods.com
it definitely is a murex. The closest I found to the one I have is a Burr Murex.
He's busily exploring the inside of a measuring cup right now. They sure can move fast! I take it that he is a candidate for the trash can?

It would be a GREAT subject for a species tank. If you don't want it can you ship it to me? I'll gladly reimburse you for shipping.
