Identity whats wrong with my tank

Hi all,
I've learned so much from this forum and was hoping for some more help. I have a 40G fish only tank (for the moment) which did not quite cycle yet. Most of my fish seem to be doing fine, except for my blue tang. All the reading are not too high. I do water changes every once in a while. The blue tang has some white marks on the front on both sides. I've attached a picture. Also, my snail's shell looks like its wearing off. :help: :help:

Simply put, there should be NO fish or inverts in a tank that has not fully cycled. You say "most" of your fish. What all is in the tank? How long has it been set up? Give some more info on the total set-up; equipment, filtration, Live rock, substrate, etc.. Also post your water parameters. You've unfortunately moved ahead much too quickly. I'd suggest returning any fish and inverts you have and start again using non living media to cycle the tank. Do a lot of research into the species you plan to keep. The tang should not be in your tank. This is a very large and active fish. They also usually fare poorly in newly established systems and need stable mature tanks in order to have a chance.
You need to exercise a lot of patience at this stage. SW systems are built over time and there are no overnight success stories. Start by saving the organisms you have, and then proceed slowly from there.

pacific blues are prone to ich as juveniles. Also, it does not help that your tank has none of the proper nitrogen fixing bacteria. Give him a garlic supplement for the time. Transporting the pacific blue will probably kill it do to the stress. Don't make a serious mistake like that, research everything you are going to add. In two months (whether the fish lives or dies) you will see it would not have mattered adding the fish to early. You have all the time in the world

this is a perfect example of why people should read before they do anything.
ive been learning about this hobby for like 2 months now, and still dont have a tank with fish in it.
still learning...
but i cant wait any longer, picking up the tank shortly.

Let me give you an update about my tank:
40 Gallons Fish Only
AquaC Remora
3 Red mangroves
Aqua Clear 500 filter (I think they call it Hagen AquaClear 110 now)
LS
No LR
and now with the readings:
Ammonia: 0 ppm
Nitrite: 0.25ppm
Nitrate: 20 ppm
pH: somwhere between 8.0 and 8.2
PS: I've started reading for the aquarium around 6 months before I went ahead and started it. In case of the blue tang I knew it needed more space but it is only 1.5 inch right now and I'm planning to get a 100 Gallons in the upcoming months.

forgot to mention that the AquaC Remora is attached to a power-jet 1200. I also have 2 power heards: a power-jet 1200 and a power-jet 900

well your readings arent too bad, but you are correct, the tank is still cycling which means things may get worse before they get better... Do you have a hospital tank? if not you should set one up and start treating the ICH right away. I went through a bout with Ich when I first got a Hippo tang and as long as you follow the advice from Beth posted in the disease forum you will be ok.
Other then that just keep checking the levels and once the cycle is done and your hippo gets rid of the ich youll be fine!

As for the snail I have no idea what its problem is

Ive seen that before. In the store, they are kept in reef type systems. They get a coralline algae build up on the shell that dies off when not in the right environment. Nothing to worry about.
