If you had to choose (vacation spot...)

I have been to Disney, and it is not my cup of tea at all.
Bahamas - out islands, not main tourist islands all the way. Remember - there are like 700 islands in the Bahamas (I do not receive any compensation from the govt. of the Bahamas...). So plenty that is not Vegas like. I only go to Nassau for the airport.
Not stuck on getting a tan, but I do want to "relax" and so I am worried about something where it is like Day 1, tour 1; Day 2, tour 2...etc and you are left at the end going "what was that!?!?"

My vote is for St Lucia. Close enough to be easy to get to, tropical, and NOT very touristy at all. I went there for my honeymoon a year and a half ago and can't wait to go back. Most of the island is covered in mountains and rain forests. The north end of the island is where most of the population is and where it is the most touristy. The south end of the island is all rain forest, mountains, and small, more exclusive resorts. its a lot more laid back.

Of your four choices in the poll, Costa Rica can be as relaxing or as adventuresome as you like. It is 'reasonably' close to you (Texas?) and is 'reasonably' priced. It has great beaches and rugged/unspoiled jungles and mountains.

went snorkling in hawaii.
just awesome to see some of the fish i have in my tank 2 feet awat that are the size of a basketball.
also saw mini dolfins jumping in and out of the water next to our sailboat.
went on a mini submarine to see corals the deeper you go the less light and as you go down the corals become less colorfull.
also see the telescopes on the mountain 33000 feet up ,stand there and look down on the clouds.
sometime before i die i want to get to the great corl reef in australia.
i have been to alot of islands in the carribian but dont compare to hawaii.

no 13,000 feet, typo just the same might have been 14,000
up where the planes fly
seriously
google hawaii telescopes
it was 85 degrees at the bottom of the mountain and 25 up top
the instructor has an oxygen tank on him in case someone passes out.
we had to drive a diesel truck cause a gas powered would stall out up there.
i wish i had the pic of the clouds below.

We just got back from Belize. We stayed on one of the islands near the reef. Beautiful place. Very slow pace and relaxing. There is hiking and ruins on the mainland. Not very touristy. We saw very few people at the hotel we stayed at. Snorkeling was amazing.

lol, the highest I've ever been is 14,500 feet. That is painful. But quite a site.

I agree with St. Lucia. Do a Sandals vacation. Had my honeymoon there in May. You have pure relaxation, beautiful culture, and plaenty of exploration.
From your listed choices, I would choose Alaska. I enjoy the Carribean, but living in Clearwater I can hit the beach anytime. I would love to see Alaskan landscape and wildlife. Whatever you pick I hope you have a blast Susan!!!

NC mountains....maybe Appalachian Trail. All you need is a tent and backpack. Think about it, no crowds (no people for that matter), candlelight dinners (campfire), and more nature than you can suck in. Love it.....
If the tent is too much, pick a town, like Boone, or Maggie Valley to stay.

I vote for the coliseum in Rome. Awsome snorkeling and some of the best history still around.

Been to Hawaii and Alaska....both overrated, unless you can find an unpopulated, uncivilized area. Hawaii used to be the coveted place to go, but now is so crowded with tourist that it looks like Miami Beach Florida. Alaska is cool (no pun intended), but you have got to hit it at the right time of year. Daylight is scarce sometimes (literally), and the picturesqe views are not always there unless you time it right. But between the two, I'd go with Alaska, specifically... wherever Sarah Palin lives. That way you can see Russia too....

not on your list, but you might cosider the island of Dominica.
We stopped there for a day on our 1st cruise and really enjoyed it.
Terrific rain forest. some good hikes in there. Good snorkeling/diving. Not too built up. People were very friendly. The bus driver on our tour of the rain forest would pull off the road every so often, take out his machete, and cut some fresh fruit from the road side trees for all of us to taste.
We had the absolutely the best pineapple we ever tasted!
It is a very poor country, though.
One point about the natives. They expect you to pay $1 to take their picture....
