Don't get bogged down by a "theme." Once you do, you can be stuck for a long time. what all do you ant to do? The floor looks nice. Ceramic? Having it on a diagonal makes the room look bigger and adds nice dimension. It's very similar to ours. Are you looking to just paint and paper? Changing out countertops or cabinets? Neutral colors are..well..neutral. Taupe and beige are, IMO, dull and kind of boring. If you want to bring in some warmth, think along reds, spice colors, even brighter golds or yellows. If you have some curtains you like or something in an adjacent room, pull a color from there to tie the rooms together. When we bought our home, the whole thing was done in a sea foam green. We both like richer colors so have redone most everything in dark reds, greens, golds. White wood work can highlight these colors but some go very well with dark woods as well. We did our kitchen over last year and went with a bisque colored cabinetry, granite counter tops and a floor similar to yours. The wall color is called spiced clove and is an orange/red tint. I had to talk my wife into it but once applied it really made the room pop. It has a Tuscan feel to it, although we didn't set out to do that. We have received countless compliments. Don't be afraid of some color. You can then accent with curtains, floral arrangements, pottery, small prints or even glass vases/jars. Not everything has to coordinate and sometimes a more eclectic look is really fun.

i personally don't like squirrels. but find a base color you like, and do a faux finish over it w/ natural sponge. and if you want, find a nice border w/ a theme you like. i LOVE your floor by the way!

Hopefully we won't be in this house very much longer. Course I've been hoping that for 3 years now.
what all do you want to do?
I just want it where I feel all cozy there, like I do in other rooms in the house.
The floor looks nice. Ceramic?
The floors are ceramic if porcelain and ceramic are the same thing.
Are you looking to just paint and paper?
Just paint, I hate wallpaper.
Changing out countertops or cabinets?
Countertops yes, cabinets no.

See that goes with the not wanting to be here long. I am afraid if I add "color", it will not sell as fast as if the colors were more neutral.

What about the wall with the window being a red or spice color while the other walls remain more neutral?

Yeah, my curtains are tannish too...

That sounds cool. I wish I had the decorating talent though... I go to the store and can see things that would look good, but I never get them cause I don't know what to match them up with...
I like the pottery idea, and prints and such... So much to do...so much to consider...
I hate decorating.
Post a pic of yours!

Here are pics of my kitchen. The green in the pic did not turn out too good for some reason. You could do a burgandy on the bottom and keep the taupe on top. A little color is always good. Even if you will be selling.

ooops, I just realized that I duplicated a pic.
We are also going to be swapping out our cabinets next year to probably a maple.

Of Course I painted it... Yeah, they sorta run together... according to the house prints, I tiled a little into the DR. It's supposed to end on the left side of the door on the left, but that was not chi comfy, if you know whay I mean...
Oh, I forgot to mention, I love your tile and colors...

Can we see a floor to ceiling picture?
You seem to have a high ceiling and I might think wall and ceiling racks, with wine glasses, cast iron or utensils to ID it as the spot. The nook makes me think cabin and so do the critters.
The walls behind the nook are offset and so could really do a splashy red or green and that would bring the attention to the right place..

definatly the wine on bottom with the taupe on top keep the trim white, just make sure the paints are all in the same family of it will look off-usually you can get the paint color chips(strips)of the same brand most of the time the complimentary colors will line up if ya hold em side by side-(disaster in my moms kitchen)...SQUIRRELLS ROCK ! is that a cookie jar??

I like the idea of red behind the nook. I may try that. I does look cabiny, and I was kinda going for that, but I ran out of ideas...
The squirrel is just a little decoration, only about 3 inches tall...
I still like the Italian idea, with wine and such... I think I'm gonna google some pics to copy...
Red... I'm so scared of color.

color is your friend. :happyfish
look for shades of burgandy/wines. those colors would compliment your taupe/tan. That way you won't have to keep going into other rooms.

You know if you want to go with a pig design I could get you going!
My wife USED to collect piggy banks on her travels. So the artsy person in our family got in into her head that my wife likes pig stuff. Every birthday she opens at least 4 more little pig things.
I have gotten sick of them and keep them into the garage and we pull them out when we have a family get together.
I was reminded of this thread because I was just putting the pigs in the garage from Easter.

Edit, With all the pig stuff I could send you, Mr. Squirrel would never feel lonely.

Scotts,
HAHAHAHA!!!!
It sucks when people think you like something. My brother once mentioned he liked the superman emblem. He has gotten EVERYTHING you can imagine, even a light up spinning belt buckle!! Yeah, he's about sick of the emblem now, but it's funny how people try to get a collection started for you...
I am imagining you putting them all out for company, that's funny.

Love,
I am accepting that color is other peoples friend, so I'm considering it... Color is NOT my friend. It makes me dress funny, decorate funny, and humiliates me every chance it gets... My van is taupe, my walls are taupe, my floor, heck even my hair resembles the color...lol...
Color scares ME... :scared:

Ummm... Capris?? Are those those pants that come just below the knee?
I like lime green...on other people. I think it casts it's green onto my face and makes me look sick, LOL...
Lime green and black, see that'd be a color combo that I would never be able to put together... One says spring, one says winter, I'm all confused.
I would LOVE to teach you how to use a compound miter saw in exchange for some color clarity, lol...

Colors are for enjoyment..........they are your friend........don't attach anything but what you like to it. :happyfish

Not yet, but I have a handtowel with a nice shade of bergundy on it. I'm still trying to imagine what that color would look like all on that wall though. Reds are difficult...it's gotta be the perfect shade. I've seen to many people's houses where they WANTED bergundy and ended up with a dark pink, or a brick red or some color that looked aweful in their house.
I can't pick it, but I can critique it... I think.
