Don't get bogged down by a "theme." Once you do, you can be stuck for a long time. what all do you ant to do? The floor looks nice. Ceramic? Having it on a diagonal makes the room look bigger and adds nice dimension. It's very similar to ours. Are you looking to just paint and paper? Changing out countertops or cabinets? Neutral colors are..well..neutral. Taupe and beige are, IMO, dull and kind of boring. If you want to bring in some warmth, think along reds, spice colors, even brighter golds or yellows. If you have some curtains you like or something in an adjacent room, pull a color from there to tie the rooms together. When we bought our home, the whole thing was done in a sea foam green. We both like richer colors so have redone most everything in dark reds, greens, golds. White wood work can highlight these colors but some go very well with dark woods as well. We did our kitchen over last year and went with a bisque colored cabinetry, granite counter tops and a floor similar to yours. The wall color is called spiced clove and is an orange/red tint. I had to talk my wife into it but once applied it really made the room pop. It has a Tuscan feel to it, although we didn't set out to do that. We have received countless compliments. Don't be afraid of some color. You can then accent with curtains, floral arrangements, pottery, small prints or even glass vases/jars. Not everything has to coordinate and sometimes a more eclectic look is really fun.
