This was one of the most horrible movies I've ever seen :(
Calling it "Doom" was just a ploy to get you into the theatre. Once you got there, you quickly realized how the movie and the game were almost nothing alike. In the game, you are fighting demons. In the movie they were fighting genetically-altered humans.
The only things that were the same as the game were a couple of the guns, some of the setting, and the name of the research facility. Even the BFG gun was botched. In the game, the BFG emits green crackling energy that only destroys living tissue. In the movie, the BFG emitted blue plasma that melted whatever it came into contact with.
The imps didnt throw fire. Heck, they didn't even have the multiple "spider eyes" that they do in the game.
The only monstrosity about the whole movie is that I paid $5.50 to see it. The creator of the Doom games sold out to make a small fortune. I give the movie a D-.

Not to defend this movie, but many of the "monsters" [zombies] in D3 were "altered" humans who had been experimented on. Remember the lab with the body parts? Not just demons from another dimension, but mad scientists playing God.
The movie was childish, like all video games made into movies are. I can only imagine what awaits us with Silent Hill the Movie, and Hitman, the Movie.

In fact, is there any good original movies at all these days? Many try to remake some classics, and fail miserably....ie: The latest "The Fog". Major let down.

I was under the impression that the bodyparts and holding tanks in D3 the game were from the demons. In one level they actually had buttons you could push in front of tanks holding various demons and bodyparts and it would tell you a brief history on the demon in the tank.
I'll give you the benefit of the doubt Beth and say there was genetic experimentation in the game, but there was also LOADS of demons....none of which were in the movie. I was highly disspointed. I expected to see obese demons with rocketlaunchers as arms, infants flying around with reptilian wings, and giant horned satan-like creatures hurling firebolts.
I expected them to find the soul cube, to delve into hell, to be surrounded by lakes of lava and for them to spelunk into caverns filled with bones and satanic carvings.

The only good part of the movie in my very humble opinion was the 2 minute scene where it switched to 1st person view. :joy:

I agree there were certainly NOT enough of the real monsters. I obviously didn't even notice the HellKnight. The movie did not capture the real DOOM. It was a bad movie and worth only seeing if you wanted to see the uniforms, the facility, etc, not for content of the script.
About the experimentation....wasn't that scientist gone mad responsible for turning people in the facility into zombies? That was D3, as this plot twist was not covered in the originals. I may have been wrong, so I won't argue. Guess I'll have to replay the game....or maybe I'm thinking of Quake! LOL

I was always under the impression that they were excavating an archeological dig and found the deceased martial culture, along with their technology that allowed planar travel. Welp, they accidently opened a gate to hell. That was when the mad scientists took over and kept sending marines into hell to steal technology from the demons.
You could be right Beth, and I just missed the genetic research part. I was busy blowing stuff up and hitting stuff with my flashlight lol!

Actually, you may be right....I was busy screaming and trepidly taking every step! In my hands, that Marine was a real wimp. LOL

That's the jest of it, as for the original story.
The thing I missed the most about the original Doom games in Doom 3, was the mutilated Marines, torches made from body parts, evil decor like Pentagrams and goat heads. I did however LOVE the way the demons make their entrances. Teleporting through fiery pentagrams. Doesn't get much more evil than that.
There's a paperback novel I read probably 10 years ago. It was pretty good. You could actually see the areas from the games in your head, recognizable from the detailed descriptions. The idea of doing this movie had been kicked around for a long time. Shame to hear such bad reviews of it but no surprise.
I hated the Mortal Kombat movies, and wasn't that impressed with Tomb Raider or the Resident Evil movies. Probably wait til this is on cable before I watch it.

Texasmeatal... the movie is completely awful. The more my girlfriend and I play the game together, the more we complain how badly they butchered the Doom name :(
