OK I have a 125 display tank. I have dual over flows dual retrusn both returns run on their own pump one is a 1500 gph pump with decent head loss maybe like 6ft of rubber tubing/pvc pipe with two 90's. The other is a 650gph pump with minimal head loss. Today I added two 1200 gph koralia pumps and oh my!!! its looked like a hurricane in my tank! I never had problems so far and the fish seem happy but I was always told to add more turn over so i finally had enough money to get the koralia pumps. So can someone clue me in on where I should be cause a hurricane doesnt seem like a good thing either.

I normally try to shoot for at least 20x turnover on a tank. I keep alot of SPS so I am at 50x. Also when figuring flow you usually do not count the return pumps. I will on a nano but not on a large tank. The hurricane will subside. Make sure its not blowing the sand around and just built up diatritus. If its blowing sand then angle the powerheads so its not blowing around.

imho it depends on what you want to keep. As long as your getting good surface turnover your ok for the most part but if you want sps or other corals that need strong current than the more the better. For the most part unless there is some specific reason it's too much I would say more is better
