A new LFS in the area is stocking true percs...I saw them the other day and they were beautiful...does anyone have any info on these guys??? They are obviously not tank raised...Do they require anything special? Are they a hardy fish? The colors on them do not match the false perc in my opinion. I am thinking of getting a mated pair for my 60g. I wanted a pair of maroons but am very scared of fighting...
Oh and by the way!!!! tanks been cycling for 2 weeks and no more ammonia!!!! Only nitrites and nitrates...I am so pleased...I am hoping that by next Saturday after 3 weeks the nitrites will be gone so that I can add these true percs...The LFS also has some cool LR from solomon islands...I think I will pick up about 15lbs...that way the percs will have 50lbs of LR to swim around...
Another side ? Will LR seed the sand bed??? I can get some live sand if need be, but I'd rather spend the $$$ on LR!

True Percs are very hardy fish that make excellent reef community fish.
If it were me I would hold out for Tank Bred specimens. They are easily obtained and the success rate is extremely high. If you're looking for a pair then don't buy two from the same batch. Inbreeding does affect these fish and quality fry are dependent on genetic diversity.

Ditto on what Bang guy said - though captive bred might not survive as well - if you want to breed them I would check out Joyce Wilkerson's book entitled Clownfishes (sold on this site ;) )
Also - your LR will seed you sand bed. Sounds like a great home for some percs!!

I really like those true percs...
I decided to forget the flameangel and go with the pair of percs and the purple tang...maybe a mandarin way down the road...don't want to overstock, but I want some really colorful specimens...
Thanks for the advice
