SSI is strictly for disabled and/or elderly.
Right, but it's paid for by a payroll tax. The RR pension system doesn't pay anything toward destitute children. The people that are exempt from SS Tax do not contribute toward SSI. 100% of the burden is placed on those who contribute to SS. Everyone should share in that burden. The RR pension only pays for railroad employees, SS pays for everyone, even disabled children of railroad employees.
If Social Security only paid out to people that contributed then that would be different. Since it pays out as a Social Program everyone should have to contribute even if they have a seperate retirement system.

I believe that SSI comes from the General Rev money and not paid for by the SS trust fund. Social Security is strictly for those who contribute to it, and politicians who want to over reach into pockets they have no business in. So, anyone paying non-SS taxes, would contribute to the welfare programs.

Hmmm, I believe you. My concerns appear to be unfounded. Thank you for setting me straight Beth. I'm curious why there would be multiple systems but now I can safely say I really don't care.
