good choice, download it and install it, and it should ask to start a boottime scan right away, do that and the next time you restart it will start scanning, wait for it to detect something and select 'delete all'
then play the waiting game

Oh great, we finally get a moderator around here and she gets a virus and her computer will now die!
Women and children will be running wild in the streets, anarchy will rule and life as we know it will end....
I'm going to go make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich now.

Hey Meowzer, I do ALSO have a Mac, but this is not the place for that. ;) But I ALSO have an HP. I run Avast on my HP and I have never had a problem. Avast for me is the way to go, that way, you never have to ask those strange Russian people on TV late at night why your computer is "acting plains wierds"

avast is not what I recomend to my customers. When I see norton on a machine, i just laff.
Meowzer, if you have the time in the morning, go through this and yes its free -> http://www.bitdefender.com/scanner/online/free.html
If you have anything bad, it will catch it and remove it. If you are going to purchase anti virus software, i only recomend panda. Nothing else is really close to it other than NOD32 but that was a while ago. I know panda is still good.
Myself, I have nothing installed AV wise on my machine and I dont need to. The last virus I had came from my wife browsing through facebook. that site is now banned in this house and since then, all clean. Its not about what OS you use, its more about where you go on the internet and what you are looking for. Yea, since we had this machine, about 9 years, i have only used the AV that came with the machine and when the "trial" period expired, I uninstalled the software and never installed anything. I am a more advanced PC user than most, 8 certifications, but the general rule applies. Dont look at pron, stay away from the silly game sites, dont DL anything you are half way unsure of, and be smart.

Hi all.
I and many others have had these problems today on ADVFN financial website. The problem is only effecting Norton software users, they have updated their settings last night.
Plenty of people have been on to Norton and have been told they are working on a patch that will be ready soon.
You are not being attacked .
Here is a post from the developer on ADVFN.

Edit: by the way I am based in the UK Just noticed the time differential.

LOl....No worries....I have 3 computers at home

OK....I have run Norton for as many years as I can remember...never had any problems..
I am at work now, so I will have to wait till I get home this evening to look into any other options
BUT...I have the same version of Norton on my work computer, and I just renewed it last week. SO Let's see if I start getting messages here
SO far, I have not

Just quit surfing porn, leave that to us professionals!
Yes meozer, find ONE site and stick with it. If you are really in need of something new and find a site that looks promising, try to get a reference. :D
Anyways, I'm glad bloodhound could help you out...I'm curioius as to how he found his way here? Google search? Fellow SWF enthusiast? Norton tech support? HMMM....maybe he will chime in again =P.
He came for a one night stand technical support fling, and left with plans for a 100g reef tank...now wouldn't that be something! =D

Hi All:
Huddler has been working on this issue and here is the resolution:
Norton released new virus definitions last night and today which were causing users with an updated version of Norton (as of 1/11) to see
false positive reports of an intrusion. The attack name was called "HTTP Zombie Exploit Toolkit Request".
We determined this was in fact a false positive related to the way we count the number of views a thread has received. We made a minor modification to the way we named this functionality which should prevent Norton users from seeing this false positive report. Our community was never under any attack, this was simply a false alarm from Norton based on their new security update. Norton is also releasing updates in an hour related to this issue: http://community.norton.com/t5/Norton-Internet-Security-Norton/HTTP-Zombie-Tool-Exploit/m-p/377762/highlight/true#M143207

Well that is all you need to say about that...
(on a side note) once you've actually been infected by a virus/malware. There is really only one program to use. malwarebytes.org.
This has replaced everything else in my arsenol of tools. Their is a couple trick you have to do if you do indeed have an issue. however it has never ever not once failed me.
