Is anyone else a little worried?

I do not want this to become an all out political discussion, that is not the purpose.
First...
With all this unrest in the Middle East, wouldn't you think that oil prices will steadily rise and we might eventually have another war?
Second...
Has anyone else noticed that the shelves at your local grocery store / Wal-Mart grocery seem to be running a little more thin than usual? Is it just me or my location?
Third...
Has anyone been tying the recent events of hurricanes, earth quakes, famines, wars, and political debauchery to the Book of Revelation and "The end of days?"
Fourth...
If you buy into that line of thinking (or not, it doesn't matter)... What are you doing to prepare for disaster, famine, urban warfare, and providing for your family in a time of crisis?
And no, this isn't just coming from a new dad. I have had these thoughts for several years now.

Seek refuge in faith Snake. It will uplift you and provide the skills to be content with yor life.

I understand faith pretty well, I think.
I am content with my life for now. If I wanted more or better, I would work more and harder for it. That's not the discussion.
I mean, it seems like eventually the world will overpopulate to the point that it can not sustain itself. Disease, famine, wars, political greed... If you think about it, civilizations have risen and fallen over thousands of years... Does anyone sense this oncoming breakdown of modern society? Is anyone buying extra food, stocking up on supplies here and there to prepare for any situation that may call for it?
I have my doubts about the whole religion thing, but I'm working on it. But, a little voice inside my head is telling me to "get ready."

That kind of statement kind of p!sses me off too... (no offense at all, GeoJ, I highly respect your opinions!) but that to me is blind faith. My faith in a higher power is telling me to prepare for the coming days... And no, I am not a Revalationist.

And another thing... If you take a look at American history, you will see that we have averaged one war every ten years since the US was born. I am likely to see another six wars in my lifetime. All for Oil, Religion, Drugs, Food, or Politics. (not in that order, of course)

Seth- this is actually a pretty interesting discussion.
But, no, I am not too worried. The only thought that I have that is similar to this is that the government is slowly planning for all of us to become slaves to the elite and super wealthy. But, that's more conspiracy theory than anything... which I'm not really into... but am also not blind to it.

And, I know this sounds cruel, but we (our family) loves it when oil prices go up. Cause we have so much invested in silver. When gas has a spike, we get a spike in profit... e Just thought I would throw that out there.

If you look back at history, yes civilizations rise and they fall. Eventually that will happen. There will be a war. Are we heading close to it? Probably. Am I worried? No, whatever is meant for my future will happen. The doomsday clock has inched a minute closer to midnight this week. It is now at 5 minutes to midnight.

pft, the government and large corporations already have the working man under their thumb. For example:
You own your house but don't pay your property taxes: the government takes your house.
There is no such thing as a graduated income tax in the constitution, but try not to pay taxes - and the IRS will do everything they can to squeeze every dime out of you they think you owe.
Advertising leads us to believe that we need things that we don't actually need and can do without.
You go to apply for a job and you have the exact same resume as another individual... because that individual is of a certain race, under affirmative action the business owner is obligated, by law, to discriminate against you.
It is illegal to live in a residence that has no running water and no electricity.
so on and so forth...

Lol, every time I hear that midnight thing, I always think of that comic book / movie "Watchmen"
So... Basically, if TSHTF, you don't care. You will be completely unprepared and you will pray for your God to take care of you when he was trying to warn you to prepare all along?

Yeah, and if you think about it - Unless you all have millions and millions of dollars worth of stock in it, you are not making much money. Think about this... you all have to pay more in gas every week/month, and you also get a dividend from owning stock in silver... at best you may come out even or just over. Lets say you pay $40 a week for gas for one vehicle and then lets say the price of silver went up and you got a $40.50 check in the mail for that week... congrats! You just made $0.50. Woohoo!
I've played the stock market game... I invested quite a bit of money - and I've only made 1.5x my investment in 10 years. ... on a very risky money market fund though.

I sold most of mine when it got close to $50. I've been considering getting back in. Maybe on the next dip.

For Snake's benefit I'll mention that I purchased quite a stash of silver over the years (Silver Eagles) varying in price from $4.50 (I liquidated all stock in 2003 to purchase at $4.50) up to $15.00 an ounce. I believe I posted a thread a few years ago URGING members of SWF to buy silver while it was below $15.

Study history and see how very tough it was for most people just a few hundred years ago, and will feel the luckiest guy on the planet with not a care in the world.
People nowadays have time to worry about doomsday. Back then, they had to worry about the next meal and were happy to have a vegetable, bread and water to feed their children. We have never been so pampered, wealthy, and healthy as we are now.
I did notice the stores short of supplies, but attributed that to the usually after holiday bare shelves we usually experience.

When silver rose to $50/an ounce, we made $2000 in one week off of silver. Of course that doesn't count increased gas money...... but that's minimal to the amnt we made that week.
Of course, we do not own stock in silver... we own real silver that you can hold in your own hand... we'll buy 100 ounces, per say, on one Friday, when silver is $46 an ounce. Next Fri, it's $49.50 an ounce. $350 extra that we made in silver that week. Of course that $2000 wasn't from scrap silver, it was from more desirable silver, but the increase in the price of silver made people want to buy it a lot more. I know that it wouldn't have sold if silver wasn't at crazy prices when we sold it.....

I was working for myself in 2007 and I lost my job. I was laid off for 18 months with out an unemployment check. The entire housing market collapse took all my possessions. This was a very hard time for me I learned who were true friends and found some family, that I do not call family any longer. Faith in myself, my government, my real family, in God. Kept me going till I found a job in 2009. I had two good year of work, now I've been laid off for two months. Yet I do not tremble, why, faith...
The last time I was in church was over 30 years ago, I hope that knowing this about me may allow you to under stand my post more. I can understand why someone may get "p!ssed off" I hear what you are saying.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
I hope you can hear me. :))):

I have guns and ammunition. I am ready LOL!
We are 100% debt free. Chase bank pays me for the privilege of using their credit card for interest free 28 day loans every month to pay every bill we have but the power/gas bill. Last year our total was over a grand last year
I make good money in the market but I have the time to actually work my investments. I started in 01 and 02 with a buy in of about 45K total. In 05 I drew out 36K. Today my fun money account as I call it is worth about 145K. For people who can't keep an eye on things metals are a good deal. I would have rather been in cotton and corn the last few years than gold or silver.
I seriously doubt Iran starts anything. It gives Israel an excuse to level their nuke facilities and keep in mind Iran has to import gasoline as well as export their oil. If the leader was bat crap crazy enough to try that it would be a net positive because we would have the sea way open again in a matter of days and it would change the political winds in this country towards increased domestic production.
