After December 21, 2012, it won't matter anymore. You'll get sucked into Mother Earth by that gynormous earthquake and Super Volcano that's gonna erupt in Yellowstone.

Does anyone have a 24 hour bag? Bug out bag? Does anyone grow their own vegetables? Does anyone can their own food? Does anyone else have emergency plans, meeting places, call lists, etc? Does anyone have some water stored up (for consumption, of course)? Does anyone have an alternate form of travel, and if you do, do you have the ability to use it?? (like a bicycle...) I'm just thinking that it might start to be a good idea to take some precautions...

I have deer, trout, birds, apples, cherries, pears, maple, blueberries, black berries, raspberries, cattails, and a fairly large garden. As long as we get an occasional visitor poaching food to use as supplemental protein we can live here indefinately.

pft, the government and large corporations already have the working man under their thumb. For example:
You own your house but don't pay your property taxes: the government takes your house.
There is no such thing as a graduated income tax in the constitution, but try not to pay taxes - and the IRS will do everything they can to squeeze every dime out of you they think you owe.
Advertising leads us to believe that we need things that we don't actually need and can do without.
You go to apply for a job and you have the exact same resume as another individual... because that individual is of a certain race, under affirmative action the business owner is obligated, by law, to discriminate against you.
It is illegal to live in a residence that has no running water and no electricity.
so on and so forth...
Dude!!!! That is total BS and I find that offensive!!!!! Would you care to walk my shoes when you have to prove everyday your better than your buddy because of the color of your skin.....Don't give me or anyone that line of crap.....Nothing is free or handed to you....you have to be a doer.....

"come on in and stay for dinner!"
lol
You see Bang, you are actually one of the lucky one's. I don't have that... I do have a fairly large garden, but it's not protected. I don't have the fruit trees or access to some. I wouldn't run out of meat though. he he he .
I was thinking of putting together a bug out bag. Any recommendations of what to put in it?

Nothing to prove at all... lol. I didn't say that either one was better than the other. Both are equal (at least in my eyes), but because of the law, they are not.
If you want a job, period, you have to stand out and be the best. If you want anything in life you have to get up and work for it and achieve your goals any way you can. I'm not by any means saying that is a bad thing. In fact, I look up to people who face adversity with courage and conviction.

Include a hardcopy of a book titled "How things work" and a Bible.

I used to be very future conscious. Not any more. Do your best today and enjoy present and better future will follow. If world ends then it will end. If you are worried, stock up a bit on canned food, water and some other necessity. I always have little bit in case of hurricane every year. Living in florida does this to you lol. Any ways, main point here is just enjoy this fine day that god gave you.

Ha ha! Love it! I fell for the whole Y2K thing and had several hundred gallons of water and about 2 years worth of canned and dehydrated food. I am building(hopefully in by June) a self-sustaining, off-the-grid house out in the desert. I am not expecting any apocalypse, but I am preparing to be 90% self-sufficient. I am digging 2-50'X100'X10' reservoirs to capture monsoon rain for a garden and emergency water. I am also building hydroponic garden boxes for most of my produce. We get cold in the winter here, but still have a full 9 month growing season. Having a rammed earth house means we could survive pretty much anything short of direct nuclear strike. I am not expecting anything worse than hyper-inflation and $5/gallon gas, but I want to be as self-sufficient as possible, so I don't depend on any bank, government or business. My one fear, and if you look up the Chinese general who said they have a plan for a limited nuclear strike and invasion of the West Coast you'll see why, is a Chinese invasion. No, I don't think it's imminent, but no civilization in history has had the imbalance of males to females and not gone to war. There are 200,000,000 Chinese men who have 0% chance of getting a wife. That pent up testosterone and discontent has always led to war. So if I was preparing for an emergency, it would be to defend a Chinese invasion.

Don't own any rural land but I am close to hunting and fishing, there are two large lakes within like 5 miles of my front door. Where I am kicking myself is about 3 years ago I came across a 40 acre "farm" about 12 miles east of here. It had a fairly new Mobile home and out buildings but the mobile was in a little rough shape. They were asking 200K for the place. The wife wasn't wild about the idea of traveling into town every day on the east 70. It isn't like I was going to farm the land but the AG property tax treatment would have been sweet. I passed on it. In the last year oil and gas companies have been leasing up land all over the place out there. Just a well site on a 40 acre parcel east of here brought in a 2K signing bonus plus a 16% royalty on the well. The type of drilling they are doing means they are looking at a minimum of 50 barrels a day production. Even at 80 bux a barrel a 10 barrel a day well would bring in better than 100 a day in royalties. KICK KICK KICK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a RO/DI system and a dehumidifier. I need to pick up a generator to power the house. I am not planning on anything going down this year or the next, but it is good to have some things to be prepared. Even if it just gives you the peace of mind knowing if something ever went down you did something to help yourself and your family.
There was a TV show a few years ago that kinda addressed this, "Jericho". Not a bad show at all, it got canceled half way through the season but the blow back (on line) was so great that they finished the season a few months later.
I think that Siptang has the right out look on it. I remember being a little kid and all the talk was that in the year 2000 the world would end. I would stay up at night worrying about it. I would think that in 2000 I would be 23 years old and would have lived a pretty full life. Just goes to show you that when you are 9 or 10 you really don't have a good frame of reference on anything. But Y2K came and went with nothing happening. Now I just want to make sure that I am happy with my life the way I live it everyday. I want to often see the people I care about, and do things I want to accomplish. If the world ends tomorrow then so be it. I believe that if you are at peace with who you are, then when the time comes you will be happy with your life.
Now, that is not to say that I don't think that the world is heading for certain disaster. We are all screwed!! And when that happens all those people who are against guns are going to be making friends with those in the NRA. LOL. Just ask them what is in their " bug out bag". Guns and bullets baby!!
