I've been reading that plants like mermaids fan and halimeda produce it and before I start to put corals on my tank I want to know if it will harm them

Coral skeletons are largely composed of calcium carbonate that they generate from calcium and bicarbonate. So long as your calcium and alkalinity are good I don't think you have to worry.

Those are actually not plants, they are calcareous macroalgae. They will not directly harm corals. What they will do is consume Carbonate and Calcium. You just need to ensure that the corals have a ready supply of Carbonate and Calcium.
