Is this bristle worm bad?

This worm is a light red in color and is about 6" long. Is this type of bristle worm bad to have in my tank? This worm came all the way out with the lights on roaming on the sand looking for something to eat. I want to know if I should let it go back in the tank.

Mentally?...No not really...I can constantly smell pancakes and I'm certain no ones cooking them anywhere near me...this is probably a bad thing

If you have it out... remove it. peeps have given them the name Carribean Fireworm". Their bristles stick in very easily and they are the worm in general is STRONG!

Well crap - I've seen lots of those in my tanks and just assumed they were normal bristle worms. Guess I better go read up on them and see if I have a problem. I was just noticing today how many come out in broad daylight when I'm feeding and was also noticing how BIG some of them are getting.

There is nothing wrong with that bristle-worm. Yes, if you try to touch it, you will regret it. So don't touch it.
Bristlworms are vital LR and sandbed detritovores. This is one reason you buy LR.

Oh good, thanks Beth! I have had several opportunities to rid my tank of them but have never done it - I kind of like the extra life it gives the tanks and I find them neat to watch. I would hate to hear that I had to start getting rid of them. I'm like a proud Mama when I see some of the real big ones. LOL This hobby has turned me into a sick person.

I agree with most everything you said about BWs. I seed my own newly started tanks with them. But these are a different variety of BW, E. complanata. I remove this species when out in the open.
