Is this sand like southdown that everybody talks about. As most of you know it is very hard to get southdown in the west & I was at a wholesale open to the public and saw this bag. So I bought it because their was only one bag & I have never seen this type of sand in any store hear in CA.

I had 150 lbs. of that Natures Ocean in my tank 3 Yrs. ago. Lasted 6 months and took it out and threw it away. It gets very dirty and it is too fine any movement in the tank blows it ALL OVER THE TANK.If you have any fish I would not use it .Also I would not do a DSB with this grain. The sand looks GREAT when you first put it in but it will later create a mess. I replaced it with 175 lbs of carib sea.

Bronco it was $17.00 for the bag ( 20lbs). Jerrybsal what do you mean it gets very dirty. Do you mean that it gets very dirty with a fish only tank? I am really not into FO tanks I am more of a RO (reef only) kind of a guy. I would imagine with the the right kind of clean up crew I should be able to keep it clean, oh & perams to. No offense to any FO tanks intended. Angel did you place the sand around your LR or did you just lay your rock on top? I have been told that with this sand you half to becareful due to gases and I was curious since you have it.

while i changed over i put my LR in a rubbermaid with my tank water in it, after i changed over i just set the LR on top of the sand.

Well jon what can you do like I said before I dont see much southdown here in CA and IMO as a hobiest when a opportunity comes across my way I always jump at a chance to get something new or different, especially when it is difficult to get southdown or natures ocean white sand. Oh well everybody is intitled to their own opinion. Thanks Angel.

I never said I wasnt interested in SD. Also I cant recall ever saying If someone could give me any other recomindations on any other marine substrates. So with that in hand let me refresh what I did ask. " I asked if Natures Ocean is like southdown." Your reply was that that your lfs might have some SD you thought and that we talked about it, which to be quit honest I dont remember ever talking to you about this subject! maybe it is my fault for asking a question instead of stating my intentions for the sand so that you could give me advice on what I should use and how I should use it. I truly apoligize for my actions Mac.
