Before wiping it out try to feed it a small piece of fish or shrimp. If it grabs it & quickly retracts then nuke it. If it just slowly curls up then it's something else.

the only problem there is that the only food i have is flake. The tank is only 3 1/2 weeks old. do i need to go get some food, or is there an alternative? Thanks.

I'm only 95% sure that it's Aiptasia.
Touch it with something and see if it reacts quickly (Aiptasia) or in slow motion.

well, i wouldnt say it was lightning fast, i used the handle end of my net and at first it just kinda felt it then almost rolled up in a ball. It did not suck back into the rock, and was open again in about 5 min. maybe less.

Sorry to jump on in your post here, but I have a similar concern w/aptasia. I have something that I think is aptasia, but does not match any of the pics searched on the web. I will be posting a pic soon. It came in on a anemone crab shell and one day dislodged itself from the shell and made its home on a rock. I have some mushrooms, star polyps, and button polyps and it hasn't attacked those. Can I assume that it not then?

I think I just found out what it is. A curly-Q anenome! Can anybody tell me a little about this thing? They state that it is part of the Aptasia family. Should I destroy it? They sell it at ***********.com.

I have 3 curly cues I got from this site. I was thinking as I was reading these posts that the "aptasia" described here acts very much like my curly cues...... and then you explained why........ are you really sure they are part of the same family?
I have had them almost 4 months now and they are doing great. They HAVE NOT multiplied and I can't think of any reason you would need to "destroy" it..... IMO (I did just pay money for them .

Good luck!

I have two and they both have more of a purpleish color to them. Does yours have a pink opening in the middle?
