just came out of hypo, after like six weeks... all of the fish are way healthy and bright, no ick! :cheer:
i brought the salinity up to 1.011 from 1.009............
how should i go about adding salt back?
i was thinking of extracting like 5 gallons mixing some salt, then dripping it in? whats the best way to add salt?

and what should i make my salinity at in the 5 gallon bucket?

i just don;t want to hurt my :happyfish

You could always just do topoffs with saltwater pre-mixed to the desired salinity you want in the tank ... this will raise it slowly enough so not to affect livestock.

hmmmm..... so if i do 1.023 to the 5 gallons, just let it sit over night then do top offs? can i just add this diectly to the tank? or do i have to drip it in?

Be sure it's mixing over night .... if this is a reef tank I'd get the SG up to around 1.025. Yes, you can add it directly during topoffs.

I agree.

Lets say you have a 20G at 1.011 right now and you want to get to 1.025.
Take out 5 gallon. That leaves 15G at 1.011. Mix overnight 5 Gallon of water to SG 1.067 (Calculation below). Drip it over 24 hr into your 20G tank.
To your 15G at SG 1.011, you need to add 5 gallon at SG X. This will make 20G at SG 1.025:
15 * 1.011 + 5 x = 1.025 * 20
15.165 + 5 x = 20.5
x = 1.067
Correct me if my math is off ...

Why does the water need to go overnight? Also, when you say "mix overnight" does that mean the water should be acitvely mixed for that long, or just allowed to sit over night?

Actively mixing with a powerhead. The PH of a new saltmix mix is unstable. After a few hours, the PH will stable at around 8.3. Also, if your water is fresh RODI, it lacks any oxygen. Mixing it will introduce oxygen into the water.
The OP will be dripping. So, leaving it overnight is of less important. Just mix it until the salt is disolved.
