I've made up my mind....

And I am officially going on a diet. I saw a pic on Facebook of me in a bikini and I looked great. My goal is to get back to this. Now, I know it's not going to be easy, but I plan on making some lifestyle changes.
My plan:

  • Effective now I will no longer be eating out or microwave meals. I am going to eliminate processed foods from my diet and add more fruits, veggies and healthy food.

  • No soda and will be adding lots of water.
Purchase a bike and bike daily. I like to do this and it will be fun for me. I plan on taking longer rides on the weekends.
I'm going to find a gym that is for me and get a trainer that I can meet with weekly to help me get started.
Any tips would greatly be appreciated. I'm not so focused on a perfect weight, but getting healthy.

Yes, getting older bites. My goal is to look great in that bikini by the time I am thirty. I have a year and 2 days to do that. I think I may have made my first mistake by making the bikini pic my background.

My wife and I have been doing the P90X workouts and they are fantastic. Its great if you dont have the time to get to the gym everyday or if you've got small kids that keep you in the house in the evenings. Its tough, but we are seeing great results. The workouts generally consist of an hour a day, 6 days a week, along with a nutrition plan. Notice I didnt say DIET plan. Its not a diet.. The nutrition recommendations are designed to help you burn fat and build muscle. The program is 90 days long and then you can either stop and maintain or do it again. We are now in our 11th week out of 13. So far I have only lost about 8 lbs, but I have gone down 2 pant sizes, lost about 4 inches off each thigh and gained about 3 inches in my chest and 2 inches on my arms (biceptricep area)
We already have plans to takes 2 weeks or so off after the first 90 days and then do it again. You need either a set of dumbells or resistance bands and a yoga mat. We are using the bands, which we found pretty inexpensively on ebay.

I've lost a little weight - about 62 pounds a couple years ago when I really put my mind to it. Since my wife got pregnant I kinda slacked off some and gained 20lbs back. But, I'm back on the wagon and going strong again.
Here's what I have been doing...
Every week, I pick three things to change. They can be as big or as small as you want, but you have to make them and have to stick to them. This kind of plan doesn't make you change your entire lifestyle in one day - but it takes weeks - perhaps even months with small changes. This allows me to keep the weight off long term...
1. A nutrition/diet change
2. An exercise change
3. A lifestyle change
So, for example...
1. No dinner time desserts
2. Walk on lunch break
3. Don't hit the snooze button to wake up...

Good for you!!!
Happy Birthday in a few, I guess!! LOL
Sounds like you have a plan. I would just say, do the best job you can to stick with it. Not eating out should help a lot. Eating power foods helps (foods that you can eat until full but do not contain enough calories to gain weight, carrots, celery, and such).
I always seem to be more active in the warmer months and shed my "winter weight". But I find each year a few more lbs don't come off and I gain a few more. I need to have a plan as well. Keep up the good work!!

I refuse to say I am on a diet....Since I started at the gym...I am saying I have made some changes in my lifestyle......eating better foods, less JUNK...and exercise
I have done too many of these fad diets....and where they do work to a point.....you tend to gain the weight back quick after you stop.....
NOW I WILL NOT....give up all foods.....Just not eat as much or as often the bad things....LOL

From what I've seen, Weight Watchers is the only "diet plan" that really works because it teaches you to eat correctly and not just count calories.
NOTHING is a good substitute for eating right and excersize though.

I eat how I want and stay in shape. I run 1.5 miles every day, workout, everything. The thing is a big breakfast, small lunch and dinner.....the meals get smaller by the day. Running is wonderful for losing weight. I don't use running for that purpose but for toning muscle. I suggest running and intense an workouts.....do you have a IPhone or Android? They have good workout programs on there.

Running is the worst thing for your knees. I ran track in high school but now its too high impact for me. Now I only run if I am chased.

Same here. Ran track and cross country all through high school. 4-6 miles a day was pretty average. I'm about to turn 36 and my knees definitely aren't what they used to be. Keep it low impact. Biking is good. Got my wife one of those recumbant bikes a while back because she has problems with her knees but she has no troubels using the bike at all. She started using it again a couple monthes back and has dropped close to 30 lbs I think. Me, I can eat like a dang horse, still the same weight I was back in high school...actually a little less, I used to work out a lot more back in those days so I had more muscle mass. I need to start exercising again though and quite these damned cigarettes.

I played field hockey all through high school. I was thin until I tore my ACL. I never did the surgery to get it fixed and always used the knee pain as my excuse. I'm going to start biking and building up my thigh muscles. Also, I am going to not let my knee be an excuse anymore. I plan on quitting smoking as well. Lifestyle changes.

Good job meowzer. Keep at guys who want to quit. I bite my fingernails a little bit. I don't even know I do it some times. I've tried to quit, but its pretty hard.

At my 220lbs, if I run, I'd damage my knees in a heart beat. I have to do low impact things to loose weight, as well as cut calories and things out of my diet. Loosing weight can be as simple for some people as stop drinking soda. I know I lost 30lbs in two months just by doing that.
The trick is sticking to your plan.

Does it hurt to walk, quills or sweatervest?
Well, I play hockey a couple times a week now. Tuesdays are just pickup and Thursdays are league games. My knees are very sore about 2 hours after I get done playing. Stairs are a bit painful (tank is in my basement so I have to go up and down a lot). But the knees feel pretty good all things considered after the night I play. I played a bit of basketball in the driveway last year with friends... We lowered the rim and were dunking a bunch. The next day I thought I needed to go to the Dr. my knees hurt so bad. But hey that's what they make pain relievers for right??
And FYI... I quit smoking in Jan of this year (I miss it!!). Smoked for almost 17 years. Never felt better!!! I have a lot more wind on the ice now.
