Japanese Dragon Tank Size

Whats the best size tank to keep a Japanese dragon in? I've read minimum 75g up to a 180g. Which one is true? They have one at my LFS for $600 and I'm really tempted to pick him up. I'm currently running a 100g FOWLR with a V. lion, Jeweled Moray, and Goldentail Moray. Will be selling one of the eels if i do. Thanks in advance

They "Can" be kept in a 75g as a species tank only, but I can tell you as I have one in a 75g I'd rather have him a 150 or 180 for room to roam.
As for the tankmates, I'd get rid of all of them if your planning on keeping him in anything other than a 180g. The goldentail is the only one that I'd consider as a possible tankmate.
The lion is a slow mover and likely to get attacked, also your eel could get seriously injured. Would you really want to risk a $600+ animal?
And the Jewel is a "possible but with more risk" as they are more agressive than the goldentail and could lead to a stand off that ends with two eels locked in a knot while biting and fighting over territory.
You can look at one of my recent (today) post on the other thread to see the video of the size of one of these guys in a 75g. Trust me he fills the tank.
These are just my opions and others may differ, the final call is yours.

Total agreement with everything 95Harley said. I wouldn't risk the goldentail as it would likely end up as an expensive snack one day. I would not add anything unless you are okay with the possibility of it being eaten. Mine just ate a large red corris wrasse that was buried in the sand when i removed the previous tank inhabitants. These eels are aggressive and quite fast when they want to be. I'd go 150 or bigger species tank with inverts, my fire shrimp rarely leave the eels head and mouth- pretty neat to watch

Will most likely sell both of my eels just to be safe. My lion is pretty big, maybe 7-8 inches, would dragon still try to attack?

From what I have read on wwm- yes. I would be more concerned with the lion stinging the eel, Fenner warns of this on wwm.

Nice eels, I've always like these Dragons for a species only tank. It looks a little cramped in that 75 though.
