Jawfish questions

I am looking to buy a jawfish and I have a couple questions.
I have been told the pearly jawfish needs 5 iinches of sand to burrow, and others only need three. Is it true or would a pearly do fine in 3-4 inches of sand?

In order to keep the jawfish for it's entire life, you should have a sandbed of at least 6".
They are very hard to keep, IMHO, however many people have had great success with them.

It will do fine with just a couple inches of sand. Just provide some pebbles for it to line its burrow. Better yet, make sure it has a rock to burrow under.
Be careful with the top, they are notorious carpet surfers. Do NOT underestimate their ability to find a hole to jump through.

I didn't answer because I do not have one -yet! ;) I had one, but he didn't make it.
I have a 29g biocube and what I have done is made 1" pvc tunnels in anticipation of getting one. My sand bed just covers the 1" pvc. I am not at home or I would post a picture of the tunnel before putting the sand in when I set it up. If you are interested I will post some of them this evening.

What Bang said....but try to get a fairly flat rock. More surface to sand and not much top weight.
I have acrylic lids I made for my tank that had a jawfish in it. The lids had 3/8 holes as gas exchange and (1) 3/4" hole to put your finger in to lift the lid. My blue spot jawfish found one of those 3/4" holes and jumped through.
They are BIGTIME jumpers and great and finding a spot.
