anyone help id this guy?
looks like a normal spotted ray(California ray) i had one yrs ago very cool little guys with lots of personality.. i do highly recommend changing him to sand as cc caused lesions on his underside which could lead to infections.feed him mysis shrimp squid yum yums(its cubed chopped squid.. frozen krill.. I always soaked the foods in selcon and garlic extreme.prior to feeding..rays need alot of room to swim and grow . they are very active creatures by nature..he cannot be house with many types of fish as well not only for their safety but his as well.if you really want to give this guy a good aquarium life i strongly advise getting a much larger set up for him.. you can use your existing tank as sump to help with startup of biological filtration. keeping all of the LR and cc in the sump and placing fine to med grade sand as substrate to the rays tank utilizing everything you've already had to buy
ps dont ya love it when LFS sell species and they have no clue what species it is

While I realize that the OP hasn't responded to the question, I don't think that is a 20 gallon tank. If it is, that's the largest overflow box that I've ever seen on a 20 gallon.

either way...crushed coral or hard substrate in nothing but problems..I think its a matter of an impluse buy that will prolly end in tragedy

in some of his other threads, such as the octopus thread, he claims to be an expert and so on and so forth, that thread was actually closed by the mods LOL but i think its the 48x48x12 acrylic box he built, supposedly, but still, that sand bed is just gonna end up killin his ray

yes i agree it does look like a larger tank .unfortunately all that rockwork and cc is going to create havoc to this little guy. causing damage and taking away from his free swimming space. are you running carbons on this tank? if not i would ad some just to clear up that water..btw congrats on him..

if you look at the threads this guy has started, he has a pattern of doing things just to upset people and cause a riot, like putting an octo in a nano tank with a seahorse

Until we hear back from the TS I think its best not to pour anymore gas on this ( no more bashing or accusations) . Let the people who have actually successfully kept rays help out to get the fish help .

I love how everyone seems to think they know what they are talking about...some of us know more about this stuff than others...and some of us give advice when we ourselves may not know everything....
