Just great!!!

Okay, so my baby puffer seemed great when I got him about 3 weeks ago...I just noticed white spots on his tail and his body now- guessing ich? No I didn't qt him, I know I know I screwed up and I didn't have my qt tank set up.
What do I do now? I have a 20-30 gal tank that was going to be my qt tank- but what do I do now? Do I set it up? I have to go to work right now and won't be back until midnight so nothing can be done now- but what can I do.
What I have in my tank- 75lbs of rock, 1 young niger trigger, 2 clowns, 1 algae blenny, 1 dimaond goby, 1 emerald crab, snails and hermits, 1 xenia, and 1 kenya tree. Every fish seems ich free but not my puffer!!!
Can someone tell me in GREAT detail on what my options are?

what is the size of the dt?
if the puffer has ich all over him it will also be in the water and sand at this point.
you need to post this in the disease forum.
sep or beth will help.
they might not see it here.
you will definitly need to set up the other tank pretty fast.
now you will probably have some major work to do.
i would say if the puffer was healthy the ich will go away(alot of people would disagree)but i get it from time to time on my tangs just got rid of it a few days ago.
but seeing it has spread so fast you more than likely have to seperate the fish and lr,corals.
i know its alot of work and time but if the ich spreads that fast it will wipe out the tank.
you will have to determine either all the fish in the qt or take out the lr and corals ,inverts to the qt then hypo the fish.
you can use some water from the dt in the qt to help with the cycle.
good luck

for the best help this should be in the disease forum, but yes you will have to hypo the fish. it might be easier for you to do this inside the DT and just remove the corals, inverts and rocks

Bump!
I posted this in the disease forum and no help..I can't wait any longer.
My puffer is having labored breathing now. I took out my snails and put them in my qt tank really fast....I bought rid ich and want to add this to my tank...what is the best way of doing this- also can I leave my xenia and kenya tree in there?
Help please? I am off work tomorrow finally and would really like to help my fish out!

that sucks, hopefully someone on SWF can help you. i actually don't know any options, my fish had never had this happen. Tell me how it turns out. But i would agree to quarantine.

Well my baby puffer grew week and was sucked up the powerhead over night...couldn't find him all morning so I freaked out and turned the powerhead off and there he was- all puffed up and stuck from puffing....he looks BAD. He is very pale but still alive...I took him out and put him in the qt tank so I can watch him better. He is now beginning to swim around as I watch him in tears. I don't know what to do now because if I medicate him or hypo him I think it might throw him into worse shock. I may just leave him in there for a few more days to see how he is doing and if he gets better then I will have to do something.....Can someone give me any advice/help..please?

For the immediate moment
Mix some of his food with garlic (assuming he's eating) - it'll help boost his immune system.
Read in detail how to do hypo treatment (search the forums, there's a TON of threads on specifics - go with Beth or Sep's method - I know they know what they're talking about, and moreso than me).

surprised beth or sep hasnt helped.
well what i would do and it will be scary to you but at this point i would ,do a frash water dip.then put him in the qt and start the hypo.
i will help you with the dip and hypo as simple as i can.
dip
make some r/o water and get it up to tank temp.
place the puffer in the water and keep an eye on him close.
leave him in there for at least 5 minutes but 10 would be better.leave him untill he really starts to swim irraticlly.
that will make the ich fall off him.
then put him in your qt with the salinity the same as the tank you first took him out of.
you will need a refractor not a hydrometer they are junk.
over the next two days slowly reduce the salinity to 1.009
very important to be accurate.
i know it will by trying on you but at this point it might be too late to just qt and hypo without the dip.
let me know if you need more help.

I put some food in there, so far he seems interested, soaked his fav squid in some garlic. He seems lonely in there with his snails, lol...I am going to have to take them to hypo him when he feels better but for now they are cleaning up....What can I put in there to make him feel at home? Can I add a piece of live rock from my tank? I feel so freakin bad for him but his swelling is going down and he is moving around more.

Some people put pvc pipe in their qt...gives the fish a place to go...and you can't kill pvc doing hypo..LOL

Okay...off to get a refractor- which I have been putting off

So I just place him in a bucket of fresh ro water, same temp, and wait about 10 minutes..no powerhead or anything? Then back into the salt? Well qt tank.

exactly,i hate to put the fish through this also but it will drop alot of the ich off so he can start to heal up.
if he really starts to go nuts in the ro take him out.
make sure there is plenty of flow in the qt.
also might want to pick up some liquid buffer and watch the ph in the hypo .when the salinity goes down alot of times so does the ph.
so make sure you have a good ph test kit.
also get some zoe to add to the food and some kent garlic to entice him to eat.
good luck
