Just on another message board

It's funny that this web site allows no links to other competitors but there paying alot of $$$ a month to advertize on another web site. How long has saltwaterfish.com been a vendor on this other web site?

Some sights pay the bills with the money they get for advertising. This sight is owned by SWF, and the bills are paid by SWF. They don't allow links because this is part of their "store", and it wouldn't make sence to advertise another company here.
Where you see sponsors are usually independently owned, and they place ads for anyone who pays for them but they do not sell anything themselves...

If you guys are talking about the sight I think your talking about, I can't go there. WAAAAYYY to many people for me!!
I saw a photo thread that was like 200 pages long, so I came right back here.
I like the smaller forums, this is about as big as I could handle.

I do both, but what it really comes down too is that I can recognize the people here. And you don't get the crapshoot of information.

going to -- and going to swf is liek going to two different lfs. one place will tell you euro reef is the best, the other place will say octopus is the best. there are 2 different types of people there. here is seems like tehre is alot of beginners, but everything here is more personalized. -- it seems like if you dont ahve 10,000 posts you wont get a answere but you can find information on everything and thousands of pages of it! so much good diy and the andvanced topics section is awesome. but i love them both for differnt reasons, i just wished it wasnt so censored here.

Arrogance runs rampant at that site. I've got an account but every time I've posted there I end up feeling bad because of something that was said to me.

I am part of about 20 different boards and out of all of them I made this one my home about 5 years ago and have been here ever since for that reason

I am an active member of only 2 forums. The other has about 6 posters, lol.
This sight used to be very stable with it's info. I left for a couple of years and when I came back I noticed that a bunch of inexperienced hobbiests were giving solutions to symptoms and the original problems were being ignored.
A lot has changed in the past couple of years, but as with all new hobbyiests, they have to learn WHY things happen the way they do.
-- is way to big. I can swim with those big dogs and hold my own but I'd rather hear myself explain a cycle 50 times to enthusiastic new hobbiests than to hear the arrogant know it all rants of the chemistry major who dabbles in SWF.
I like this sight, even if some of the new stubborn hobbiests know just enough to be dangerous, lol

This place and reefmonkey have the best lounge type forums. Lotsa info to be mined at the big box site but it is a little on the stuffy side

Out of their defense. I've spoken with some facinating and very helpful people there. From a puffer queen that was VERY helpful when I got my puffer. to someone that founded an aquarium in the north east somewear. They claim to have the largest aquacultured reef tank ever. I think it was 20,000 gallons. It is just to hard to establish any sense of the quality of the posters there, unless you do catch the eye of these golden eggs.
