I'm thinking about adding a green chromis to my stocking list (75g community). always thought theyd be like their damsel cousins but have since heard otherwise
1) are they nice community fish (for yellow tang, occelaris, gramma, etc)?
2) i know they like to school. is just 1 ok? would like to save the space and bioload for other fish

Hey,
I don't know if one would be happy. I've always heard to get them in odd number shoals, ie: 5,7,9. I had 5 at one time and then, like you, decided I could get a little nicer stuff for the same bio-load.

I agree with Bang that one chromis is reclusive. I added five chromis over a year ago, and due to aggression from just one of the chromis, I'm now down to one. It does really well on its own, but usually stays in one spot, and only comes out for food.

I, too, have been left with just one chromis since all of his buddies have died. I don't think he's very happy being alone, and he gets picked on by all of the other fish. I'm planning to add more in the future so he won't be so lonely.

I have two and they are best of pals always together. I have also seen other keep them in groups and they are said to be good for schooling.

i think i'll get 3 or 4. this is the 2nd time i've heard peope say a bunch died off. i've heard some mumblings about mixing --- as well. maybe its b/c most people use them to cycle their tanks!
i've also heard some stuff about them losing their color/brightness?

Sorry to be a poop here but I don't recommend 4 either. 3, or more than 4 seems to be best.
Mine have been hardy for the past 5 years. Buy small ones and let them battle out who gets to be male & female.
