Hey Anthony!
Welcome! Sounds like your definitely on the right track. Don't be scared. I was at first because of how everyone told me how hard this hobby was to succeed in.
Its really not and it will definitely educate you. Ive learned a lot. My guess is that your son will love it and probably be quiet successful at it.
As Mony said. after the first few months, amazing stuff starts happening. Many symbiotic relationships are born and the tank will almost take care of itself. stuff starts appearing to perform a certain task ( I found a tiny brittle star in my tank last night to take care of some of my detritus . No idea where he came from. now I have two!)
Then they say its too Expensive. While it is an expensive hobby, there are some things that don't have to be. ( your new setup((awesome IMO)) was a great deal I think). There are also tons of DIY, (
) for the simple to the complex depending on your level of confidence and/or competence. Just starting out doesn't have to be expensive, however as you progress in the hobby the better equipment does cost. but 9 times out of 10 its worth it.
Anyway, Welcome! This forum is full of both people who love to help and talk fish AND great livestock and supply's for purchase. Oh yeah were a visual bunch who love looking at pretty pics.
Good luck!
