It depends on the Carbonate and Calcium consumption rate in your tank. A tank with few corals can easily get by with only limewater. A fully stocked reef with lots of clams and corals will probably need an additional supplement.

Give it a try. Keep in mind that many softies consume massive amounts of Calcium, especially Leathers.
